New to all of this, wondering how to live with this

Andrew! I was a newbie to all of this just a few short years ago, and here's some of my personal thoughts and advice... First off, feeling worried, depressed, or down and out kinda comes with the territory, especially at first. You're already on the right track dealing with doctors, and the...

    Random bad days/nights during remission?

Hey folks, I'm looking for some answers from people who have experienced extended periods of remission, or who are currently in remission. Do you have any experiences with the occasional "off-day" or "off-night" with somewhat severe symptoms, only to have them resolve themselves and not crop up...

    Finally

Glad to hear it! It takes a while though... and by that, I mean that change can often be so gradual that it doesn't seem noticeable for a while. At least that's how it happened for me, anyways. It was a slow enough process that I really didn't think I noted much of a difference until months...

Skipping days in a month to keep immune system on toes

Can't say I've done this intentionally. I've certainly missed a dose from time to time (usually due to running out and not ordering a refill in time, or if I get home super late and manage to forget), but I haven't noticed any difference either way.

Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) Support Group

They are definitely different drugs -- Naloxone is typically used to bring back people who have OD'd on heroin, when used in it's proper dosage. Not sure what a low dose would do, but it's definitely different from Naltrexone. I would call and confirm that your doctor didn't get mixed up, just...

    Taking LDN in the morning

Again, people can dispute this, but I wanted to follow-up on my original response: I did a quick Google search and while sources vary, there are voices out there that think taking LDN in the morning is fine, and those who experience sleep disturbances can do this as an alternative to taking it...

    Taking LDN in the morning

Hey there David, Gotta be honest -- I'm not sure that taking LDN during the day is such a great idea. It might be OK to do it, but in all the studies I've read, it seems like taking it before bed is the way to go, as I believe it's supposed to work while you sleep. I'll wait for others to...

    LDN and Diet

Also, to clarify, when I first flared I kept a pretty detailed food diary for many months, but for the most part it was a standard low-residue diet. As I slowly got better, I stopped keeping track; by the time I had started LDN, if I remember correctly, I was pretty much eating whatever, for...

    LDN and Diet

Right on. I will say that things work differently for different folks -- even though I haven't tried SCD and am not a big proponent of it, I know that it has legitimately worked for a bunch of people, so I'd never advise people to just quit SCD without giving it a second thought. Much the...

    LDN and Diet

Personally, I haven't adhered to any sort of strict diet, for better or for worse. I don't know what sort of long term effects that may or may not have, but during a recent MRI, there weren't any signs of active inflammation. For me, at least, it looks like LDN is keeping things at bay pretty...

    Can LDN cause a flare?

Not to my knowledge... but then again, IBD can be unpredictable regardless of what you do. I know that there are some people who have taken LDN who have said that it gets worse before it gets better, but when you're already in remission, I'm not sure... It might be similar though. That said...

Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) Support Group

Tonya, I wish you the best of luck! If you've been reading up on LDN here, I'm sure you already know this, but just as a reminder: For many of us, the improvements seen with LDN are very gradual. Some people have also experienced feeling worse before they start to feel better, so keep that in...

    Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN)

Kev -- glad to hear you're still "in remission," although I'm sure that's cold comfort if you're still feeling lousy at the moment. Keep us posted on your progress, for sure.

    Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN)

Hi Frogjive! I'm on both LDN and Pentasa, and that combination seems to be working for me thus far. I've been on 4.5mg from day one, and aside from a few vivid dreams in the beginning, there haven't been any other side effects to speak of. I know some people who have taken LDN have spoken...

    Good and bad news!

So yeah -- I guess I never followed up on this. Here's the Cliff's Notes version: My last MRI showed 10cm of narrowing -- right now it's down to 5cm, right at the terminal ileum, with no signs of active inflammation. So that's good, I guess! The doctor said that if she thought surgery would...

Question on small section of thickening in TI

I'm wondering if a strictureplasty or a balloon dilation is an option for me.

Question on small section of thickening in TI

What kicked this off was actually a day of intense pain, which eventually worked itself out. My doctor said to come in and scheduled a blood test and an MRI to see what was going on -- whether inflammation or scar tissue was potentially causing problems. She had a hunch that it might have been...

    Good and bad news!

I guess I'll find out Tuesday! I'm sure it will need to be dealt with at some point, but I have no idea how urgent it is. Will keep you posted, for sure.

Question on small section of thickening in TI

I'll be headed to my GI to discuss this on Tuesday, but I figured I'd ask you folks in the meantime: Anyone have any experience with thickening of a small section of the terminal ileum, and if so, how was it dealt with? From my doctor's note on my MRI results: "5cm thickened area of terminal...
