    Hi all new member

Hi I had my first operation 10 years ago, it was an emergency so had no time to think about anything. Surgery saved my life and I have had long periods of remission since then so yes it worked well for me. I am having another operation on Friday, basically if I thought it would make me worse...

That is brilliant, really good to know especially as it is worldwide. Thanks.

    Whatever gets you through...

Thank you for all your helpful suggestions :) Ruth - I took your advice and caned the wine last night so feeling like I've just been exhumed but at least I slept well! Cat-a-tonic - Got the slippers and nightwear sorted, hope I get to wear them as those gowns are just not right. Downloaded...

    Whatever gets you through...

I'm having open resection surgery on Friday so here's what is getting me through... On Sunday I put a deposit down for a mini schnauzer to be collected 15 October four weeks post op. I am so excited, been searching for one for ages and finally have chosen one :) he will be called Ludo! Bought...

Can someone please take me off hold already? This muzak sucks!!

LMAO, that is such a great way to describe the waiting we have to endure. I have 9 more sleeps until resection surgery and I was given the date 3 weeks ago. I also have used the term mental torture, it really is like the ultimate emotional endurance test. I don't know if it is better because...

    Balloon dilation?

Hi, I have had three balloon dilatations this year in February, March and June. The only one that was successful in that they were able to "pass the scope" through was the one in March. Unfortunately in my case this stricture has grown longer and it cannot be dilated and so I am having a...

    Having SURGERY in 2 weeks!!

Hi, I am so glad that I read this. I met with my consultant and surgeon yesterday and am having an "open" resection to remove strictures in my colon and neo-terminal ileum. The reality has hit me today like a tonne of bricks. The operation date has been brought forward to the beginning of...

Which test is your scariest one?

I had a CT yesterday and whilst I thought balloon dilatation was bad the side effects of the CT have been horrendous. The worst symphonic brass blow offs ever from hugely bloated stomach and vicious D still going strong 24 hours later. Large swollen hard lump at IV spot. The liquid I had to...

    Squeaky Wheel

Ok so sometimes some of us don't feel like actually posting but maybe that's because reading this forum is actually quite empowering. I can't believe how varied the level of care is for people on this forum. So many people just seem to have to 'get on with it' despite suffering. I decided...

    Apologies - First Post Blunder

Apologies - for the record I am not an NHS basher! I know I am really lucky to have outstanding treatment from one of the most reputable hospitals in the country. It has to be said though that the system can be frustrating as I'm sure has been discussed ad nauseum on this forum. Some frustrating...

Getting so frustrated.. any advice be super

Hi, I'm a new member here too although had Crohn's for a long time. If you have to continue seeing your GP I think you have to insist on an immediate referral to specialist hospital consultant and not let him mess you around. Ask for a prescription for Tramadol and ensure or ensure + it works...

Which test is your scariest one?

Colonoscopy/balloon dilatation - you can see your insides bleeding as they inflate it, I haven't found that very reassuring and just a bit too "uncomfortable".

Thanks for the welcomes! DustyKat I've had Crohn's for 18 years although it doesn't seem like that as the disease provides a surprising amount of variety, like lots of illnesses rolled into one. I've had two major surgeries for fistulas and abscesses and have just been told I have to have...

    First Post

Hi I've been reading some of the threads here for a few weeks and finally had the courage to join. I have found it so helpful and reassuring recently, there are some things about Crohn's that only those who have it will understand so this is such an important lifeline. Thank you!
