i am having radiating pain through the front rt. into my lower back, into my hip and 1/2 down my inner thigh. the pain is a constant dull-ach in the lower rt., punctuated by waves of more intense radiating pain. it is not excruciating, but definitely significant.

anyone else here have this particular kind of pain?

i do not think i have an obstruction, stricture, etc. i have no fever, so no infection.

could this radiating pain be from inflammation pressing on nerves?

what do you think?

Sorry, I'm not familiar with where your Crohns is but Roo had pain a little like this. Pain radiating from her right kidney area and lower back through to the front and some flank pain. Hers was related to inflammation in her ileum.

Hiya

yeah I started like this and ignored it for 6 days! pain exactly like yours, it won't be kidneys, sounds like the beginning of narrowing and blockage, when did you last empty your bowels? watch your temp too, it might shoot up.
if you start vomiting, go to A&E asap
good luck

@ fateful_one - the pain you describe is very common among IBD, CRohn's and Colitis. Actually it is one of the most common side effect of our illness.
The Obstruction/stricture pain is typically escalating to intense pain, and if that is your pain level please go and see a doctor asap

thanks for the replies everybody! i do not think my kidneys are the problem right now i think my pain might be related to narrowing or an obstruction, or maybe just regular run of the mill inflammation in my ileum. the pain is similar to what i felt when i had an obstruction in april, though it isn't as extreme or intense. i wonder if i have some new scarring or something from this last flare up that is causing nerve pain? i am a little worried that i have not had a BM is 3 days, which is not normal for me.

i called my doc today to get her opinion on the matter, but i never got a call back from her office... lovely uh. i am going to watch my diet and temp for now and give myself another day to see if this gets better. if not, i will probably hit up the ER for a cat scan, iv fluids, narcotics, maybe one of those hot backless robes:) heheh, lets hope not though!

update...ER visit

Went to ER last night after vomiting and extreme pain in my upper ab. It was a complete nightmare. They gave me a CT scan and said I had thickening in the distal ileum and some more inflammation on the right....they said my appendix and ileum-cecum junction was not visible because it is too deep in the body. does this sound right?? they sent me home, with a few vicodins. they never even gave me IV steriods. WTF?

i am still in a lot of pain right now. it is constant dull and boring, rt side front...right where the appendix is located. and in my lower rt back.

anybody wanna take a guess? maybe play, name that crohn's malady?

A week before Roo had emergency surgery for a perforated and gangrenous bowel she had a full contrast CT scan and it came back completely normal. Her Crohns is also in the same area as yours, so yes it is possible not see it. The location and the pain you are experiencing is what Roo had when her ileum was grossly inflamed.

HTH, :)

Go see a surgeon. Don't mess around with severe pain like that! If you don't have one call your primary dr.

hey, thanks for the replies. i appreciate u sharing ur experiences.

i have put myself on the no-solid, only mushy, extra low res diet for now. i have an appointment w/ a super GI surgeon in Chicago 9/20. surgery is started to look rather apealing to me. i know that it not a cure, but this particular area has been a problem for 5 years now and it is pissing me off! (or maybe thats the prednisone:))

hopefully i can manage to stay out of the ER and away from complications between now and sept. 20th!!! time shall tell.

Same pain same places

This does not answer your question but I have the same pains you described I had a re-section a year ago this July and a Colonoscopy several months ago and also a x-ray of my bowel to see if there was an obstruction?? Colonoscopy looked good also my bowel.....but I am still experiencing the pain you described

I assume the 9/20 is the earliest the surgeon could see you. Can your GI intervene and get you to see him earlier?
you dont want to end up with an emergency surgery
