Has anyone else ever had to go to a 504 disabilities meeting before? I just went to my first one and it was so awful. Just wondering if I'm the only one.

I did in 8th grade and many other people on the forum have as well. I'll see if I can find some old threads to post them in here. :)

It wasn't fun and was pretty humiliating I thought. Many of my teachers treated me like I had a learning disability or that I was boarder line retarded. They just didn't understand why I wasn't getting good grades and failing all the time.

I don't think it was just me having flares all the time and not doing my homework, I think it also had to do with how I learn. I'm a Kinesthetic learner (I learn more by doing something or experiencing it) and have a really heard time with learning through reading or even hearing instructions. I didn't learn about different ways of learning until I was in college though.

So having Crohn's on top of being forced to learn in a way I just couldn't understand and not being able to communicate what was wrong made most of my teachers feel that it was a mental disability on top of Crohn's. Either way they weren't nice about it. Only one understood and helped me out by spending more time with me. She was the only true teacher among them.
