Hi there, my son has been sick from birth (now 9), main symptoms were complete food intolerances (even with breastmilk), constant diarrhea, which turned to mucus and blood, skin flushing, multiple chemical sensitivities, severe and debilitating leg pains, and severe fatigue. Stress, strong smells, loud noises, extreme temps also "set him off" into meltdowns, or just crazy wild mood swings, very unlike his normal personality. He was quite sick as I mentioned, frequently hospitalized as a baby, and diagnosed with UC at age 2. We never felt that really fit with him, and have managed to treat him through removing all allergens from his diet and environment, as much as possible. He is currently on elemental formula only and finally in the best health of his life, inflammation is under control. But, that doesn't really fit with UC, and we recently went to the Mayo clinic for more diagnostics. We didn't get any answers there, but we did get a HUGE clue, which is that even on his strict allergen-free existence, he has elevated mast cells in his intestinal biopsies. 21/HPF in both duodenum and ileum, 19 in colon. His ileum had some inflammation as well, in the past we only knew of the severe colon inflammation. Anyway, we are now quite positive that he actually has mastocytic enterocolitis, so I am trying to find more people who have children with this disease. We are trying to find a doctor to travel to right now to get firm diagnosis, and who would be willing to treat my son for what he actually has, instead of the UC we previously thought he had.
