I'm scheduled for my 3rd colonoscopy tomorrow and was given, yet again, a new prep (to be fair, its been a different dr each time)
So, having spent several hours unsuccessfully googling MoviPrep in hopes of uncovering a description of the taste beyond Dave Barry's ("a mixture of goat spit and urinal cleanser, with just a hint of lemon"), I was left to my own imagination...
My first question was, can you add flavors? Gi's nurse said it was ok.
Since my first prep when I made an ill fated flavor decision, I usually buy extra of a new prep and experiment ahead of time but since this was an Rx I couldn't do that.
With lemon cit mag I do 3-4 parts VERY strong sweet tea to 1 part laxative and I don't think it tastes bad. (I end up drinking about 2000 cals of sugar but at least I'm not hungry)
So, last week I made the pre-prep run to walmart and stocked up on all non-red liquids. Including country time half and half (half lemonade half tea) and country time lemonade powders.
This morning I got up at 3:45am, made some strong tea and jello, worked about 7 hours, cleaned the bathroom I'd be living in, then decided to go experiment with flavors.
The prep is divided into 4 packets, 2 each labeled A and B. I combined the first set and weighed them with my kitchen scale, which agreed with the packet's labeling. Using some very casual math, it seems that 2-3grams of the mix to 1.5 tbsp liquid is the right proportions.
Using this estimation I mixed 2ish grams with water and tasted it. First sip was, meh, not that bad. Then I tried a full drink... ug... put the lid on it and stashed in the fridge. If my first experience taught me anything, its that flavors can always be made worse
Next I mixed 2ish grams with strong tea (no sweetener yet). Wow, that's worse. So I added some lemonade (some being key here). Ok, we're getting somewhere. I seem to prefer the strong tea plus crazy sweet.
Finally I mixed a 3rd with the strong tea and added the countrytime half and half instant tea/lemonade mix. Well that's not bad at all. I could drink that without gagging....
so I filled the liter container (the kit comes with one) with the strong tea, then started adding country time tea/lemonade.
+1qt worth of powder, hmm, not enough
+1qt (total 2 qt), uh, oh....
+2qt (total 4 qt worth of tea mix), ok, that's half the container of mix, I have to stop there but its not bad.
I then grab the iced tea cubes I made this morning, filled a glass, added moviprep concoction, then tossed the remainder in the fridge so I don't have to use icecubes next time
Now I'm sitting in my home office, sipping something that is not horrible, adding up exactly how strong I made this tea ... 2x the tea bags + 2x the powered called for = 4xs the normal strength.... and wondering how much caffeine does it take to OD????
seriously, I drank an energy drink yesterday and didn't feel this wired...
I may need to rethink my strategy for the next liter I mix up....
ok, I'm off to go brew some *decaf* for the next batch and then maybe go run a few miles on the treadmill...
