Hi, new to forum.

Had a recent flare up and am starting to get really weak. Legs weak, start getting tired around 1900 then when I go to bed I'm only getting six hours sleep.

Currently taking calcichew, iron, prednisolone.

Is there anything to stop me being so weak so I can exercise, even go out walking again?

Forgot to mention, losing blood every time at the toilet.

Thanks for any advice.

hi there - i'm going to move this thread into our Your Story forum, so that members will see that you have just joined and hopefully come in and post..

sorry to hear you're feeling so bad just now.. have you had any blood tests done recently? i'm wondering if you're anemic at all, given that you're having blood loss and feel exhausted. i see that you're taking iron, but maybe you're not absorbing it properly.. worth getting the levels checked just to make sure..

Hi Tennis IBD, welcome to the forum. I am sorry you are not sleeping and sleep is so important to any one let alone a disease. Being on Steriods can keep you awake in higher doses. Best to take your pred in the earliest AM after a full meal. It can make you feel weak at times, and you be in the fridge looking for food the rest of the time. Good that you are taking adequate amounts of Calcium and Vitamin D3 because Pred will zap it out of you. Exercise is important, even if you just walk, I have exercise machines and try to get on them for 3-4 times a week. Keeping your bones strong helps down the road. As for being really tired, you could be low on B12 or Iron than you are taking, best to get some blood work done. Glad you are here, hope you feel like family here, we are all here to help and support you. What country are you from? Welcome!

I, too, wonder if you are anemic. I was very weak for a while. When I was on steroids, I found that I could not climb stairs (even 1 or 2 steps) and couldn't even get on the doctor's exam table. I would talk to your doctor about anemia and the possibility on getting on a different steroid.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear you are not feeling well. I felt the most fatigued when I was anemic. I do still get tired but the anemia made me just exhausted! My GI put me on iron supplements to help. Talk to your doctor. Always tell them all your symptoms even if you think it is minor or dumb. I tell my GI everything. Helps him problem solve and makes me feel better when he can tell me that it is common and he can treat it. Good luck!

Ditto on the anemia advice. Iron worked for EJ. Tell us more about your IBD history. Someone will be able to help.

Hi Tennis
and welcome

I can only reiterate what everyone has said about iron. I would have thought that the Pred would have given you some much needed energy, I moved mountains whilst on it!
glad you found us, lots of support here for you
lotsa luv

I agree with everyone about the iron. I've been anemic many times and it saps all of your energy. You may want to get blood tests to see how anemic you are. After a certain point iron won't do the job and a blood trnsfusion is needed. I've had several and as soon as I received them I was feeling more energetic. Hope this helps.

Im in agreement about the iron , when i first got referred i had trouble with my legs (still do) not being abled to straighten them barely abled to walk , after blood tests it turns out im B12 deficiant so maybe something worth checking xxxx
