So in 10 days I'm having a seton because of a fistula. I'm don't really have much info about it but I know it's something to do with string going through the fistula.
This is my first procedure going under anisthesia and I'm so scared. Fear about drifting off to sleep, not waking up, something going wrong while I'm asleep! Then there's what it feels like with a seton and the recovery process?
Any help appreciated 🌸

Hi. General anesthetic is pretty safe. They need to tell you all the risks. I've been under many times and never had a problem. I never remember falling asleep. There is no sense of time passing and then your awake. It takes about an hour in recovery to fully wake up. I prefer to be out. Never had a seton.

Hi Donna,

I had a seton placed in middle of January this year and had it removed about 2 weeks ago.
The anaesthetic is nothing to be worried about as you are only going for a minor procedure and like DJW said, you can always ask for something extra to relax. I was terrified of needles and told every doctor/nurse I met along the way and they made sure to accommodate that, so I am sure if you inform everyone of your fear, they will go out their way to assure you.

As the for the recovery process, it was quite painful for about 4 days. I just laid in bed and it hurt getting up and sitting on it so I was pretty much on pain meds all the time. Then for about the next week or so, taking it easy and slowly easing my way back into daily activities.

As for the seton itself, it was rarely painful at all. There were a few times (typically around that time of the month) were it irritated my other butt cheek and that was a little painful, but otherwise I didn't feel anything and forgot all about it!

Wishing you the best of luck in your surgery and a quick recovery!
