Alcohol and codeine

Hi, im just looking for some advice about having a bit of a drink whilst taking codeine. I take 30mg 4 times a day since having an ileostomy and i havent drank since march when i was put in hospital but with christmas coming up I am hopefully of being able to go out with friends and have a bit of a drink. Im not planning on drinking myself stupid or anything silly but i would like to atleast be able to have a few beers or vodkas. The label says dont drink but does anyone have any experience of having alcohol whilst taking it.

I wouldn't risk it. Not worth the possible consequences. It may have no effect on you. Or it could kill you.

Won't do you a bit of harm I've done it for years and had to use my drink half way through night to take my pills and I was anything but moderate! So by my reckoning if your going to go easy you will be grand.

The main reason is its sedative effects - both have sedative effects. You will be used to the codeine by now. I would have thought that if you just try say half a pint or a small bottle beer to check that you are ok and then just keep the amount to a minimum then you will be ok. I would be careful with the vodka though...

It'll be fine as long as you don't go heavy, by which I mean a couple of pints or ordinary strength beer without chasers... You'll find you get drunk quicker from the lack of practice and the codeine.

Just don't stack anything else on top tho, like sleeping tabs, or you risk going to sleep rather too well and not waking up.

Never had a problem - and that includes two rather blurred trips to Ibiza one summer!

I wasn't on such a high dosage as you. - 60mg first thing in the morning.
