Just a quick question before I call my gp, I have been taking humira since last july and it seems to be working well but since just before Christmas is noticed I had started getting bunged up with mucus in my nose! Anyway fast forward 4 months and I still have the same problem. My bloods are fine apart from iron a little low but nothing to worry about my ibd nurse says trouble is constantly struggling to breathe through my nose is really getting me down and a real pain when trying to sleep. Has anyone else heard of humira causing this issue before? It's driving me crazy :-(

Hi I'm not on humira but now on cimzia and I have been suffering badly with various problems with my nose. I went to my GP and they gave me a steroid nasal spray and it worked within a couple of days and help clear up the nastiness that was in there. They told me not to use it to often as it can dry your nose out and then cause more problems but it has worked fine for me. Hopefully it will be this simple for you and not anything to do with the humira.

Might be worth trying a Neti pot, with a saline solution to rinse out your sinus's. If you google it i am sure there are some videos on you tube, to show you how.

I would be careful about using a Neti Pot. There's a warning about it here, but as long as you pay attention to that, I think you should be okay. Otherwise: I've also been put on a steroid nasal spray before too, and it's worked wonders for me.

Sinus congestion can be a side-effect of Humira, though hopefully your GP can help you figure out if that's the case or if it's just an infection you're trying to fight off!

To be honest I think steroids have a lot more side effects than sterile saline water!

Yesterday my allergist suggested the saline rinse twice a day. She also told me to stop my steroid nasal spray as it was starting to cause nose bleeds. Hope you get some relief from your sinus problems.

I've been prescribed a steroid spray, im picking it up tomorrow.

Netipot is fine - just only use distilled water.

Steroid nasal sprays are addictive and eventually stop working - can also raise your blood pressure - and I find aggravates my Crohn's. You are better off doing a few lines of coke LOL.

I don't think its completely right to say you can be addicted to nasal sprays. People who take decongestant sprays can over time, if used to much, start to cause more problems with sinuses as you become tolerant this leads to using more of the decongestant.
Steroid nasal sprays are completely different and as long as used responsibly and after being advised by a dr it's not a problem, comparing it to cocaine is not fair.

I apologize, the coke comment was really tongue-in-cheek and not meant to be taken literally.

Everyone is different - and I noticed a worsening of flare and increase in blood pressure when taking a steroid nasal spray, plus I have read they can be addictive as you build tolerance, so it was mostly a personal opinion and not necessarily a fact.

New Jersey sense of humor. :D
