Is there any way to make perianal skin tags smaller? I'm not keen on taking Flagyl or anything like that and I really don't know what to do. My skin tags have gotten larger and I sometimes have blood when I have a harder, larger, or looser bowel movement; my skin tags get irritated when any of these occurs. I'm worried I might have a fissure or some sort. Any ideas/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I don't think there is anything you can do aside from surgically removing them. I have had huge ones that went away on their own. You can always ask your dr and say it bothers you and maybe they'll know something but that's what I have heard.

Hi,
I've suffered from perianal disease for quite a few years, its a manifestation of my crohns, so I have multiple skin tags, and fissures. Ive found the only thing that makes them go away is getting my crohns into remission. My doctor says skin tags and ulcerations on that area are a sign of active inflammation, so if you make the inflammation go away, those things go away as well. If you're experiencing pain when going to the bathroom, try applying nupercainal ointment about 15 minutes before taking a bathroom trip and you shouldn't have any pain. That stuff has saved me from severe pain more times then I can count. As for a permanent solution talk to your GI, he/she should be able to offer some good options to get your inflammation under control.

Unless it is absolutely and medically necessary, I would advise against surgery. I personally have had two skin tags surgically removed (by an idiot doctor before I was diagnosed...long story ha), and it was horrible. Extremely painful, didn't heal for months because of Crohn's, got infected, and in the end was useless because the skin tags came back anyway. There are certain ointments and creams that are supposed to "shrink" skin tags, but my colorectal doctor said they don't work and that skin tags should generally be left alone. So I've just dealt with mine...not always pleasant, I know, but much better than the alternatives in my mind.

I bled every time I went to the bathroom for 10 years. Then I went on the AIP diet (auto immune protocol paleo) and I haven't bled in a year. Crazy.

I have a tag and can empathise with the pain and blood with larger bowel movements. I was told that they will reduce in time and, with remission, will go away completely. Surgery is an option but it would depend on how severe the pain is.
