Anemia

Hello, anyone else with anemia? Iron is at 28 and the other levels seemed ok except platelets crp and sed. I'm tired, paler than my normal and have lost some weight and am bruising more than normal.
I had seen taking iron pills can cause a flare or inflammation - I had also seen infusions have their own risk. Am I low enough to need an infusion. I had taken slow fe in the past and remember having a awful gut ache with it. My question is is there a recommended iron infusion that seems to be more well tolerated then others?

Hope this makes some sense...
Thank you for any input

Hello, sorry I've only just seen the post.

You can become anemic for a number of reasons, it can be from blood loss, especially in females, it can be from not absorbing the iron due to inflammation, it could simply be that you just aren't getting enough in your diet.

At my hospital, the protocol is to give infusions if the iron level falls below 10 . At 28, yours is well above that border. You may, however, be able to get iron injections if you cannot tolerate the tablets/syrups.

You should not leave anemia untreated though, it can have some nasty side effects of its own. Especially if it is allowed to get worse.
