Hey as you know me I have been a fellow Crohhnie for a year a and a half now. Started out on Prednisolone and Suufazaline, but got rid off that due to side effects. So my GI is now managing me on 5mg prednisiolone plus 4g of mesalazine daily to help keep me in remission and my Pain specialist has me on various plan usually 3x40 mg oxcontin for pain but at the moment i trialing a morphine based once a day pil to see ho it goes. My ideas I like from you I also suffer crohnic anxiety and am on anywhere from 250mcg-4mg of Xanax a day for stress (whether it be crohns related or not). Anyway my Gi is is happy for me to stay on narcotics as longh as a minimize their usage, which i agree with exactly. and also to stay on my other therapies as they SEEM to work. highlight SEEM to work. I mean so far nothing apart from pain killing medicine and the usual Crohns medications have alowwed me to live like a happy human being. My questions is what do you think a good long term plan would be? I know you're aren't medical; professionals and can't offer medical advice. But I'm at the maximum of mesalazine and just want to be able to at least half the amount of Narcotics I take for my own reason. Any advice appreciated. Thanks guys, Ciao

When I was on the max dose of mesalamine and still not in remission, my doctors put me onto azathioprine (imuran) and that did the job. I very rarely take pain medication any more, I think the last time might have been November-ish? There's plenty of info on the wiki and in the treatment forum if you want to find out more.

Like Rebecca said, azathioprine or Humira or Remicade, etc.,... something more that mesalamine, in my opinion, would be a better long-term plan.

Tim,

My guess is your doctor would like to reduce prednisone to 0 a may be switching it for another treatment. In my opinion 6-mp is very good for a long term treatment.

thanks so far guys, i will bring this attention to my Gi and hopefully thy will improve and i can reduce some of the other less desirable meds. :) = Tim
