I have a choice to make, I need surgery as my ascending/ transverse colon have stopped peristaltic movements which means I keep getting blockages.
The choices I have are an Appendicostomy (a malone ACE) or an ileostomy.
Now I have a fair knowledge on ileostomies, and I have rung a friend who is a stoma nurse with experiences of the appendicostomy, she said the problem I may have is that my appendix was removed when I was 13, tunnelled ACE, are more likely to be incontinent.
So why I am writing is to ask if anyone has an ACE and if so what do they think of it?
It is a hard decision for me as I am scared of taking much more time off work that I may loose my job. My gut feeling is to just go for the ileostomy so I can live my life and not be delayed in my recovery.:stinks:

If you have crohns of the ileum then I would do the ileostomy. If not, then my personal belief is you should do whichever of the 2 is going to be least invasive (assuming the ileum is not effected, I would leave it if you can. Just take that end of the colon where your appendix one resided.

Yes the crohns is in the colon and terminal ileum, it also has stopped functioning properly due to the damage. I am leaning towards the ileostomy to be honest.

Hi Earthsoul, sorry for the late reply.

Here's more reading on the Appendicostomy: https://intermountainhealthcare.org/ext/Dcmnt?ncid=521117329

I did a search on the forum for Appendicostomy but only found one member who speaks of their son having one: http://www.crohnsforum.com/showpost.php?p=424746&postcount=6

As you can see there are a lot of members with an ileostomy so I'm going to move your thread into the stoma section to see if any of them were given the option of an ileostomy or an Appendicostomy. Maybe they could share why they chose an ileostomy.

Keep us posted on when your surgery is. :)

Thanks Jennifer, sorry I put the post in the wrong place, apparently I have been very malnourished and might have made a few mistakes with things lately, I am a bit embarrassed as I had no idea!
I am actually feeling quite resigned to an ileostomy, it might give me my life back which for the last 6 years has just been one long run of illness and disease. I am fed up with having no control over my bowels!
