Asacol Off the market???

I haven't heard anything about that. I tried searching on Google and can't find anything there either.

Well if they took asacol off the market, they'd have to take Lialda and Pentasa off too, since they're all Mesalamine, just in different forms.

the only thing i have seen on the news tickers is a business profile about Warner Chilcot Plc. They are a specialty distributor of the drug. I believe Proctor and Gamble were the ones who originally manufactured the drug.
Another article, again in the business sector, tells about Warner Chilcot obtaining the rights to distribute another drug in the US. I think, from what I can see, they are the company now that will distribute Asacol in the USA.

Hi Dexky,
Spoke with my Gastro today and asked about the discontinuation of Asacol (I'm due to go back on it after my WBC Scan this coming Friday), and he was unaware of any probs regarding this. Not sure if this applies only to the UK, but defo no probs here. Hope it's all pie in the sky, because it had served me well for the past 10 years, until it was stopped back in April.

I work in a pharmacy, and I can say that I have heard no news regarding it being taken off the market.

i know asacol is patented so it is very expensive since there is no generic medicine like it. Maybe the patent is expiring soon? I don't know just an idea...

asacol not being distributed through proctor and gamble

I used to get my asacol through Proctor and Gamble, until now -Jan 2012 the company no longer supplies the medicine so I had to switch and get on apriso, which unfortunately isn't working like asacol did. :(

I was being supplied a free 3-month supply from P&G for the last four years. I am also on azasan/imuran 50mg being supplied by Salix Pharmaceuticals. This company fortunately had apriso so I thought, no big deal I can switch over b/c it's in the same mesalamine family.

Now, I'm not sure what to do and where to get asacol b/c I may have to go back on it. For someone with no insurance, this medicine is $600/month!

Does anyone know where I might be able to apply to another pharmacy company to get asacol?

Asacol HD is still on the market just not regular asacol .
It has been replaced by
As of April 1, 2013, an inactive ingredient was removed from the medication Asacol and therefore this medication is no longer being manufactured. Asacol will no longer be available in pharmacies once they run out of their supply. While “Asacol” is no longer being manufactured; “Delzicol” which is a new medication with the same indications for use as Asacol is now available. Delzicol is produced by the same pharmaceutical company as Asacol (Warner Chilcott) and it is bi-equivalent to Asacol. There was one inactive ingredient which was removed from Asacol known as “dibutyl phthalate” or DBP and another inactive ingredient was added in its place. Because of the removal of this inactive ingredient and addition of another inactive ingredient, the name of the medication had to be changed. There was no safety indication for the removal of this inactive ingredient. The medication Delzciol has the same indications for use as Asacol and is dosed the same. The only difference in dosing instructions from a Food and Drug Administration perspective is that Delizcol should be dosed one hour before a meal or two hours after a meal.
