Hi everyone,

My name is Chad and I have indeterminate colitis/Crohns. I am allergic to most medicines so the only thing i can take right now is Remicade. I just had my fourth infusion yesterday. After every infusion I have tremendous back and leg pains that do not go away. Yesterday, several hours after my infusion my blood pressure went way up to 166/85(normal for me 100/65) and my pulse shot up to 131(normal 70). My gastro cannot seem to figure out what is happening. Has this happened to anyone else?

Hi Chad,

I'm moved your thread here to our Remicade specific forum and renamed the title in an effort to get you some responses. I hope you don't mind, I just want you to get as much support as possible.

Hi Chad
Nice to meet you :) So does the GI reckon that the pains etc are not a reaction to the Remicade? I had my third infusion about three weeks ago. My temperature has gone up during each and they give me Panadol for that. They also give a dose of steroid before starting the infusion.
After the third infusion, I've been having strong joint pains in my hips, knees, back and shoulders.
Is the Remi helping with your Crohns symptoms?

Hi Grumbletum, the Remicade helps the Crohns symptoms. I am allergic to just about everything so the GI is hesitant to remove me from Remicade. They had me on high doses of steroids but they stop working. Imuran was toxic to my liver, and i am allergic to aspirin which eliminates the other meds. My GI is not sure what causes the pains but they are constant. The only option left is surgery(which I was suppose to have in Sept) but due to my age they do not want me to have a bag for the rest of my life yet! Hopefully someone has had this problem before and can give us an answer!

Leg pain 1 to 2weeks after remicade

Hello all,
My name is Mark and i have been living with crohn's disease for 30 years, my question to all is, has anyone had severe leg pain ie cramps, feeling like u have a charlie horse in your thigh and calf area, 1 to 2 weeks after remicade? I have been on remicade for 4 years, i was put on it after my second resection surgery. If anyone has, what did the gi doc do for treatment of this?

Hi Mark and welcome to the forum. Have you let your doctor know about this yet? If not, please do. My guess is they'll do an ultrasound and then some blood tests and go from there.

Leg pain after remicade

Yes i did go to my doctor and had several test done including dvt which was neg....and waiting for blood test results...was told this is either a reaction to the remicade or the on set of shingles....this wasfrom my pcp....called my remicade nurse and ask her what treatmet they give if this is remicade induced she said that they would more pre treatment andwasnt sure what the gi doctor would perscribe enceis why i was asking the question to everyoneso i know what to present to my gi dr,,,,i cant take this pain anymore!!!

Good, I'm glad they checked for DVT, I didn't want to say anything specific and worry you :) That sucks that you're in so much pain :( I assume one of the blood tests they did was to check for antibodies to Remicade. Based upon that there's various options. For example, they may put you on another drug to try to stop those antibodies from being formed if that the case. Hopefully someone who has experienced this first hand will come by and comment further. You're also welcome to start a new thread of your own on the subject if you so desire.
