Just wondering if any ladies have ended up with weakened pelvic floor post op.
When I mentioned my 'new weak bladder' the CRS said "well of course we cut quite a bit of your pelvic floor muscles out". Now I'm not too sure if exercises will fix this or if now I will have to put up with new problems??

I am suprised they did not refer you to a Physical therapist who works with the pelvic floor. I Have IC of the bladder and a lot of women with IC have issues with weak or to tight pelvic floor muscles. A physical therapsit should be able to help you with this maybe. Hope you get this sorted out soon and feel better soon!!

After my reversal I had some weird bladder issues that had seemed to work themselves out. I could void my own bladder but at the end of the passing it hurt and felt like I hadn't emptied my whole bladder.

I did some googling and read that anesthesia can affect your bladder function a bit. Like I said, its fixed itself now, but I was concerned that I had an infection from the Foley cath.

Physical therapy is good after ANY surgery, I did it after my stoma placement and will be doing it again once I'm cleared for exercise. My physical therapist said that you have to waken your muscles in a certain order so you don't forget the small ones that support the big ones. The first couple sessions were just super tiny movements like pelvic tilts, but it worked.

I have a lot of pelvic floor problems, but mine aren't caused by anything in particular. Mostly pelvic floor problems effect women after menopause or after difficult childbirths.

Is it Kegal exercises you're considering? I have read that they do benefit a lot of women. Presumably you still have some muscles left, so they could be strengthened. If not, there are other options. There are medications that help with bladder problems. Anticholinergic medications are a class of meds which reduces bladder contractions so you need to pee less and are less likely to experience incontinence if that's an issue for you.

Surgery is an option if it gets too bad and nothing else is working. They have various ways of putting the pelvic organs back in place and supporting them to hold them in place.

It's unlikely you will just have to put up with these problems, although you may never get quite back to how you were before. A good gyneacologist would be the person to see, or maybe a urologist if it's only your bladder that's been affected.

The only problem I had was after they took the catheter out and I couldn't pee! They had to give me another one and then I ended up with a UTI. Since then I've been fine though.

I hope you don't have to live with it! Are you seeing anyone soon that you can ask?

I'm having problems post surgery too. After i have wee'd and put my pants back on a little more dribbles out. I wondered if catheters can cause this. The only thing I think will help is kegel exercises.
My mum had problems that weren't helped with kegel exercises and she had surgery to fix the problem. I think it was just a day procedure but don't quote me on that.

From a male perspective I had terrible bladder issues and pelvic floor pains post proctectomy (and even some before the op so it may be general muscle issues in that area). The only way I have found of controlling them is keeping myself in shape. It's almost as if as soon as I start putting on weight around my waist the pains and bladder problems come back. I've tried pelvic floor exercises, yoga stretches and amitriptyline (Elavil in the US) and although they help to an extent keeping in shape is the best option I have so far found.

It may be completely different to you guys, but that's how I manage my issues with the bladder since the op.

Lol I was the opposite to you guys here after they took the catheter out I was going too often like every 5 mins feeling like I hadn't emptied my bladder I'd be there ages as well like peeing a river lol. They only took it out coz I had feeling to go even tho it was in. They eventually said enough was enough and put it bk in on my 21st birthday lol. Lovely present ha. Think it was complications from anasthestic. Hope it has solved itself for you guys x
