I'm not even the sufferer. My 10 yr old son has just been diagnosed with crohns. Well, at least without the final biopsy results from the colonoscopy/endoscopy he went through today. Just from the upper GI he had the other day, the GI DR is certain but even more so after his scopes. But as a Mom of 3 who have enjoyed all the normal kid delicacies this is a new realm. I'm a little overwhemed albeit determined to figure out what I can do to help him lead a life that is not dictated by medication but by self regulated diet etc. We are so new and trying to sift through all the information. I mean, he's still in the hospital and not allowed to eat solid food yet. I know there's a ton of others out there and I'm a little desperate. I just want him to feel better. He's lost 11 lbs, down to 50 lb, a veritable walking skeleton at this point. I've read that his attitude and outlook have an impact and I'm trying to keep him positive as he's is mourning all those kid delicacies. I could use some input, motivational comments, helpful tips etc.
P.S. I've never joined a forum before, never been a huge believer. But I'm desperate to tap the knowledge of a community that I really can't think of another way to find. Thanks in advance for any input you have from your experience.

welcome to the forum :)

To let you know theres a kids section on here which may be of some help and has loads of useful information.

It is definately worth reading upon diets and herbal remidies (ginger, peppermint, tumeric spring to mind). You may find that what is supposed to be good for normal people is actually the opposite for crohns sufferers. A lot of people here cannot tolerate wholemeal, fruit and veg. As everyone is different its just a matter of trial and error to find what works and what doesnt.

Try not to rule out medicine just yet as it is a major help for most people. Although diet can help with removing irritation of the bowels and pain it cannot stop the crohns itself. Personally I try medication and diet and once I find myself in a full remission I will see about cutting back the meds, but until then they will allow me to lead a normal(ish) life and keep me out of hospital

Thank you so much for your response. I just so don't want him to be tied to a life of medication. As I said, I know nothing about crohns or forums so I'll spend some more time looking around and search out the parents of kids part.

Hi welcome to the forum! My son was diagnosed earlier this year. So sorry to hear about your little one. The parents forum is a great source of advice and experience filled with some really compassionate people. There is also a diet/supplement forum you may want to browse through. I hope your son is able to find some relief soon.

Hi and welcome!
So sorry to hear about your son.
I can only Imagen his grief at not eating food.
He's 10 and all boys like to pig out.
I have a five year old son and even he pigs out.
My 3 yr. old girl is the one I'm on here for.:( Still fighting for answers for her.
She started EN but a little wrench has been thrown in our plans. :ybatty:
We'll see how the day goes.

I hope you can stop by the Parents Forum.
Wonderful parents with great insight and compassion to help others.
Hang in there it will get better!:ghug:

Greetings and welcome to the community. I'm so sorry to hear about your little one, that must be so rough :(

Here is a link to the parents of kids with IBD forum the others spoke of. In it you will find a lot of parents talking about Enteral Nutrition. If you're interested in a more holistic approach, I'd suggest start reading there as that'll at least buy you some time while you start to educate yourself about every facet of this disease. It's a STEEP and difficult slope but we're here to help you navigate it.

All my best to you and your entire family.
