Brown discharge

I am still awaiting a confirmed crohn's diagnosis but we are more or less sure. CT scan, blood work, symptoms, age, family history...everything points that way. I was started on prednisone, and have been on it for a week now. Lots of ridiculous side effects but now that is under control. Constipation was an issue but now it is also being dealt with with stool softeners.

For several years I have had issues with fissures that we wrote off as being random but now that is explained...

Anyway here is the issue. All day whenever I go pee there is a brownish discharge when I wipe. If I go a few hours there is more, like actual clumps of brownish looking discharge. If I down a ton of water and I am peeing every 10 minutes there is still something brown on the toilet paper but not the same volume. I am on birth control and never really have breakthrough bleeding or spotting. I also don't think it is just spotting though because it doesn't look like that.

I am worried there is something else going on here. Do I just watch it and bring it up to my doctor next week if it is still happening? do I stop taking my birth control and let myself have a period to see if that stops this? Do I get it checked out faster?

Is it in the urine in the bowl too or just on the paper? Do you have pain?

I wonder if it could be a fistula either connecting to your vagina or your bladder. It is possible to pass some stool through your vagina with a fistula and not feel it. From reading on the forum it sounds like the bladder ones are quite painful. I don't know much about those, but I bet someone who does will chime in.

Do you need to be seen sooner than next week? I'd see what the doc says. Without pain or a fever I don't it is one for the ER....but...maybe they will get you in this week if you call.

It a bit in the toilet too, but mostly on the paper. No pain. Well my ileum has felt like it is on fire for the past few week, but not pain other than that ;-) Just went to the bathroom again and there was definitely some red blood that time. It is possible this is just my period but I am on birth control and it doesn't make a lot of sense but nothing about my body makes sense right now! If my regular womanly issues are going to complicate this for me even more I am going to be angry...

It could be old blood from your last menstural cycle. I ONLY have brown discharge from my fistula or from my last mensturation cycle. I was worried one time that it was feces from my fistula again but when they tested the 'sample' I gave them it was just old blood. Yes, even on birth control the brown discharge can be from an old menstural cycle, especially if your period is about to start. It happens to me still at random.


If it was a rectovaginal fistula it would probably be extremely painful. I was in complete agony and the feces discharge had a funky smell.

Fistula is what I was thinking too. I had one bowel to bladder, but that gave me all the symptoms of UTI : urgency, frequency, pain on urination, passing gas in the wrong place. How long is it since you had the CT scan?

Could be from a fistula - whenni had mine it was painful at first but after a while the pain wasn't there and I would just have the leakage.
