Chocolate

It seems to be hit or miss for me. Most chocolates hurt and a few certain ones don't - for me, it doesn't seem to be an issue of dark chocolate vs. milk chocolate. The only really safe chocolates for me are 3 Musketeers bars, and gourmet chocolates made by a local Swiss chocolatier. Any other chocolates, including chocolate chips in cookies and things like that, seem to cause me nothing but problems. I'm not sure what it is about those Swiss chocolates and the 3 Musketeers bars, but they must be missing some ingredient that's in most other chocolates? Or something like that.

So long story short, if you find some chocolates hurt, it might not be a bad idea to try others. I looooove chocolate and I tried many chocolates before I found ones that didn't cause me problems. Good luck!

I don't have any problems with any chocolate at the mo!
Lucky me! I think I'd die without it!
Dairy Milk bars seem safe, or those little Animal bars, but I steer away from anything with nuts in.

I just have to restrict myself a bit. Can't go crazy. Dark chocolate hurts me though. And anything with some type of powered cocoa sprinkled on it is a no-no for me. I can get away with the designer chocolate if it is milk choc. Good luck!

My doc says the darker the chocolate the better. Less milk = less gas = less pain. This is just me though. There's a gadiva bar (I think) that's 80% cocoa. <3

The more pure the chocolate it is, the better because it has less sugar and milk. I find in a flare I can only handle dark chocolate and some milk chocolate products, but those are hit and miss. When I'm well, I can eat whatever I want :)

Mmmmm chocolate!!! My true  lol

I do not see a difference with chocolate and symptoms..I do not eat any with nuts though..With most foods I stay away from a lot (not chocolate of course!) but even my safe foods can make a day turn horrible...

Unless I am flaring pretty badly, I find I can have a few bites of most anything (nuts and popcorn not included). Like everything in life, I think that moderation is key.

My stomach has issues with sugar, so for me the darker chocolate the better.
Also very processed chocolate cookies, like Oreo.

I can normally eat chocolate bars, but chocolate frosting on donuts seems to cause me problems. Maybe it's just the donut...

According to a book i recently got about Crohn's and diet called "Crohn's and Colitis Diet Guide" by the Division Head of Gastroenterology at Mount Sinai Hospital. This is what they say about it:

"Chocolate is a plant food made from the bean of a South American tree, and like other plant foods it contains phytochemicals such as antioxidants. Unfortunately, the more processed it is, the less phytochemicals it contains." (page 266)

"The key is to enjoy small amounts in moderation, as even dark chocolate is high in fat. Commercial chocolate is processed and includes ingredients such as cocoa butter(fat), cocoa powder, sugar and milk. (White chocolate is not really chocolate at all; it is just cocoa fat, sugar and flavorings.) Remember, too, that chocolate contains some caffeine; for sensitive individuals, this may be enough to stimulate cramping or more frequent bowel movements." (page 266)

I have an issue with the moderation thing though LOL!

I would like to change my comment post Halloween candy...
Me and All Chocolate are in a fight and I am loosing. I hope you have better luck. I love chocolate too!

You don't have to worry about milk and gas and pain no more with chocolate there's a new solution for that and it's called lactase enzymes in chewable caplets or drops for lactose intolerance to avoid gas and cramp pains and diarrhoea.

Same here, although if I eat it when I'm flaring I'm in trouble (although that's the same for almost all foods).

You don't have to worry about milk and gas and pain no more with chocolate there's a new solution for that and it's called lactase enzymes in chewable caplets or drops for lactose intolerance to avoid gas and cramp pains and diarrhoea. Have you ever thought of trying lactase enzymes for that

Has everyone ever thought of trying lactase enzymes called lacteeze chewable tablets or drops or lacto free chewable tablets for lactose intolerance to avoid gas or diarrhoea or cramps or bloating before having any type of dairy chocolate.
