You know those cold shivers you get, the kind when you say someone just walked over your grave? Well Roo gets them frequently to the point that she reckons she must be buried under a footpath!

Anyway it must have annoyed her enough to go to the doctor. He didn't know why she gets them but suggested caffeine - she doesn't drink tea, coffee or soft drinks, Low potassium or calcium - she has bloods done regularly enough so I don't think it would be that, stress - maybe (((shrug))) or a side effect of Imuran.

So if you don't mind me asking does anyone else suffer from something like this for whatever reason?

BTW, the GP has referred her onto a neurologist.

I was getting sweats and chills when this disease was actively wreaking my intestines. It might have been the result of internal abscesses too but they always ask me about this in my checkups as a gage on how I am doing.

Is she taking any opioid pain medication, such as Codeine, Tramadol, Vicodin, Percocet, etc? Unfortunately (VERY unfortunately) It doesn't take many doses of any of these to begin to develop a tolerance. If you then skip a dose, or extend the time between doses, it's not unusual to get mild withdrawal symptoms, such as chills, sneezing, watery eyes/runny nose, anxiety, etc. One possibility.

I always get shaking chills when I have a flare. Nothing seems to get rid of them - I can wrap myself in every blanket in the house, including the electric blanket, or sit in a hot bath, but I still feel freezing cold inside. I'm not on any meds (haven't officially been diagnosed yet) so it's definitely not meds causing the chills, at least for me it's not. The chills go away when I start to come out of the flare, so I always figured it was just another symptom.

I get these chills as well...I think its due to fever when I'm having a flare-up. The shakes are terrible as they cause my gut to tense up making the cramping/pain 10x worse...Does she get them all the time or just on bad days?

Hi DustyKat!

A couple of years I was on Imuran and I got uncontrollable shivers. Sometimes that is all I would do all day is shake. I took a lot of hot baths hoping it would help and it never did! How long has she been on Imuran? I would also shiver when going to bed and wake up soaking wet with sweat in the middle of the night. It was awful, but I ended up having a bad reaction to that medication.

Me, too. Sometimes I get chills when I'm extremely tired, too, I've been told it's just part of the illness.

DustyKat-

Thought I'd add...today went to the ER with horrid pains and was shaking all over the place...so it definitely gets worse for me when I'm having a bad day. (Which seem to come more frequently, lately!) Best of luck to Roo.

Thanks for all the replies. I will certainly keep your experiences in mind for furure reference.

Roo's shivers are only those that everyone gets, they only last a second or two and then go away, it's just that she gets them multiple times a day as opposed to occasionally and they don't seem to be related to anything. Maybe the neurologist will have an answer or maybe she is quirky!

Manzyb - Roo has been on Imuran for close to 4 years, maybe it is a side effect as suggested, just not as severe as some experience.

Cheers
