Hello,
Being nervous is completely normal. Do you know if you will be sleeping for the procedure? If so.. piece of cake! The worst part is the prep for sure. Try not to worry too much. I had one done about 2 years ago and was very nervous. Afterwards, I wondered why lol
My only real advice is don't plan on leaving the house (or washroom) once you start the prep. I would also eat light the day before (soups, liquids etc) it makes clean out much easier!
Good luck!

Hey devynnsmom I've got a chooses so think I'm gonna go for sleeping !
At the moment I am taking fortsip drinks as I can't keep foods down so not really eaten in a month so hopeful cleaning out with the laxatives should be OK I hope thankyou for you feed back its made me feel better :) x

If your diet has been mostly liquid, you likely wont even need to do a lot of prep. Maybe you only have to do half of it or something since there is not much in you.. If and when I have to have a colonoscopy, I am going to go on a liquid diet for 4 to days before hand. Then I will be able to get away with only doing part of the prep. when you are pooping and starts coming out clear, your done, you dont need to take anymore of the stuff...

I hope so too :) I'm sure he will be. For me, honestly the prep was the worst. My 11 year old has ulcerative colitis and has had 2 upper and lower scopes. For her the prep is the worst part too. She is always asleep for the procedure.

When are you starting the prep and what prep are you using?

We actually have a thread of tips for colonoscopy preps, if you want to take a look at that. I'll link you right to it: Colonoscopy Prep Tips.

As Devynnsmom said, it's completely normal to be nervous!

Please let us know how it goes!

A chair near the toilet, a good book or a game on your iPod, a mobile to chat to anyone who understands, clothing that enables you to go to the toilet on short notice...

Both the prep and the drugs you get for the procedure have greatly increased - much easier...

I think the worse thing for me, is that after you wake up in the recovery room; the Dr. talks to you..then you snooze off and forget everything he said...So bring someone with you the really cares and listens because they are going to be the one that remembers what the Dr. said to you....

Hi, One last piece of advice- don't keep your phone in your pocket because it's likely to fall into to the toilet when you ravishly get your pants down (yep, been there done that and there is no way on this earth that I'm calling my phone carrier and saying it dropped in at the exact moment I was spewing diarrhea AND I can't get it cleaned up!!) So...all the preps you've done thus far sound great, but that's my piece of advice.
One more thing- if they're giving you GoLytly (which you so don't "go lightly") you can add purple or green gatorade powder to it so it will be more palatable. I have a colonoscopy done every year, and sometimes more than once/year. They'll make certain you don't remember a thing and that you're asleep and at ease.
Best of luck :)

Oh yes, def bring someone with you who can listen to the doctor afterwards! You will be drifting in and out and will forget most of what they say.
