Hi All,

Unsure if this is under the right catergory. I had a Stoma just over 2 years ago. And all was well and good until 6 months or so ago. Since then I had a new hole upon up around 4-5 inches from the stoma this at first only leaked puss and eventually started to release fecal matter. So I went to the doctors and all they suggested was to place another bag over it and give me some antibiotics. This is wasn't overly pleased with. But I battled through. However now another one has appeared and is starting to leak puss. The pain when it bursts through the skin is almost unbearable. I asked for an appointment and the soonest they can get me in is 3 weeks. I don't want another bag and I also don't want to be the human equivalent of a colander. Has anyone experienced this before? Is it just a bad flare or something more sinister?

Sorry if this was a bit graphic for anyone

Thanks
James

Although I have never had a fistula, that sounds right to me. Again i have no first had experience. What I do have experience is hounding the Drs enough they have to listen. You
live in the UK so I am guessing you have an emergency room of some sort. Keep showing up
until they treat you!

It seems we hear these stories all the time, taking so long to see a Dr in the UK, I am sorry you have to go through that.

Advocate for your self the best you can, I hope you get to feeling better soon.

Hi, when I first had my surgery in 1998 I had a illeostomy and a jejunostomy, I was in hospital just under a year as everything went wrong, I had the same thing as you, fistulas kept appearing! I had another 3 bags as well as the 2 I already had! They eventually cleared up with the medication I was given, I cannot remember what lol, they did take quite a while to go, I felt like a freak but I was so ill I didn't care, they will go eventually, it just takes time, they are a pain I know, after those 3 luckily I never had any more, don't worry I'm sure it happens to lots of people, hope yours clear up soon, im sure they will :)
