Hello all

I have had Crohns for 4 years (diagnosed) and have been on Humira for the last 2 years which now appears to have stopped working (although levels are fine and no antibodies), I have recently moved across country and have met my new IBD consultant today at the Royal Liverpool Hospital.

They do a lot of research at this hospital and I have been offered the chance of participating in a trial.

The first trial is combined antibiotic therapy v Budesonide - the antibiotics being Ciprofloxacin, Doxycycline & Hydroxychloroquine.

The second trial is using Etrolizumab.

I have been taken off Humira today and put on a 12 week reducing dose of Budesonide. Apparently you need to have a 'wash out' of 3 months from Humira before you can start either trial.

I am leaning towards the combined antibiotic trial.

Has anyone got any experience of this trial or of these drugs that they could share please?

Many thanks
Carol

No experience. Are you on probiotics? If so, I was told to double up on probiotics while on antibiotics. I hope the best for you.

Hi Ron
How are you doing? Didn't you go back to the doctor yesterday for a follow up?
I'm not currently on probiotics. In the past, whenever I have tried them, they didn't seem to agree with me. I will ask my new consultant about it - thanks.
Take care

Hi carol,
I'll tag irishgirl in this, she's on anti biotics (anti map) but I think cipro is one of them.

I had a look at the trial site before, it looks like they're targeting macrophages, in partular AIEC, (one of the culprits thought to cause crohns)

Hi Rollin

Thanks for the info.

The Prof. did mention that the antibiotics are targeting individual white cells in your bowels that they believe have been infiltrated by ecoli which has got into the mucosal lining of the white cells. (WOW - I must have been listening!)

Anyway I am back to see him in about 6-7 weeks to see how I am responding to the Budesonide and start to have all the tests prior to the trial.
