Hi, I'm new to this forum idea. I am 25 years old. I was diagnosed with Crohn's diseas 2 years ago. I have a bowel resection 5 months ago where they took out my terminal ileum and the surrounding area. I am having another flair up again. My GI started my on Cimzia recently. I was on Humira and Azothyaprine before my surgery. I can't seem to be able to catch up on my sleep or have any energy at all. I sleep well at night, and even if I sleep for 10 hours, I am still tired by 7pm that night. I am tired all day at work and usually fall asleep on the couch at 9:00pm. I try to exercise 2-4 times a week at the gym and that helps a little. I take B-12 shots every 3 weeks, calcium & vitamin D, vitamin c, multivitamin and an IBS medication. Does anyone have any advice or are they experiencing the same problem?

Thanks so much for any help you can give!

I also suffer a lot with tiredness. Have you had a full blood check recently? Like haemoglobin, ferritin for anaemia, thyroid function, glucose levels for diabetes. Those are the tests they ran on me when I complained of being tired.

Otherwise, it might just be that as you are flaring, it uses up all your energy and gives you fatigue. It took a long time after I came out of my flare before my energy levels returned to anywhere near normal.

Hi Heather. I don't have any advice for you but I can let you know that you aren't alone. I'm exhausted all the time. Until 2 years ago I was a housewife with a part time job and I was fatigued a lot. Then 2 years I got the job I have now, which is physically demanding and I'm exhausted all the time. On my days off I don't do a thing. I don't even do housework anymore. I go home Mon-Fri after working 8 hours a day, take a shower and lay on my couch fighting sleep. It's ridiculous!!! I've had problems for years and dealt with them but since I've had this job.....I'm actually wondering if I can continue to do it. So no, you aren't alone.

Being on the Imuran makes me tired all the time too. At 1st if was really hard, and now it has gotten better. If going to the gym helps, keep going! I know that since i started training i feel tons better. Also a reg sleeping schedual sometimes help, try going to bed and getting up at a certain time? I don't know if it helps, but try just 8 hours of sleep. Sometimes if i get too much sleep, i am more tired....does that make any sense?

Thank you all very much.
Regarding the blood work. I asked my GI about anything I could do to help the tiredness. He said the vitamins and shots I'm taking should help, but if not, I should go to my PCP and see if there is anything else going on. I don't want to go to them and find nothing and them think I'm crazy because I'm tired all the time. My GI didn't offer any bloodwork or anything. I had some done after my surgery and I was low on a couple things, so he told me to take calcium with vitamin D. I take that on a regular basis. I kind of wish he would do more bloodwork to see. I go back to see him in a few weeks. Maybe I can convince him to do some.
The exercise does help as long as I am careful and don't exhaust myself. That's hard though because I have the mindset to push myself so I don't gain weight.
I usually go to bed between 10-11pm and unfortunately I have to get up around 5am because I work 1 hour away and I have to be there at 7am. So I work 9 hours a day and am on the road 2 hours a day. It makes for a long day. I'm trying to find a job closer to home.
I guess I was looking to my doctor for some kind of supplement I could take to maybe help. :(

It's nice to know that I'm not alone. Thank you very much!! I've been getting down here lately being so tired because it's starting to mess with my personal life and not having enough energy to do as much as I'd like to. Thankfully my boyfriend is very understanding, but still always a worry for me.

holski, the imuran is making me very tired too. The first time I took it, 15 years ago, it didn't do that to me. But I am not sure what dose I was on then, my first specialist didn't leave me my file he had on me (it was literally 6 inches thick) when he left the state. The doctor's office assures me that my iron must be ok as my hemoglobin is, but I am bruising so easily as well, along with foot cramps.
