I had surgery for an ileostomy back in January and apart from a little bleeding from my rectum ( which could be from my fistula) I have no intestinal problems.i do however have awful mouth ulcers which I have been consistently getting worse since surgery and is normally a sign of bad things to come. Everytime I get a bad outbreak of mouth ulcers I end up in hospital for at least a week.

I am worried that something is going on in my body that isn't showing on my blood results ( which are perfect) or through symptoms. I am taking no medication apart from a steroid enema every night after asacol enema's failed, so I am concerned the disease is flaring somewhere without me knowing. My consultant is also reluctant to put me on any steroids or immunosuppressents as I had shingles after surgery and still have a rash/ scarring.

How am I supposed to know if I am flaring with an ileostomy? And what can help with my mouth ulcers until I see my consultant at the end of the month. Salt water, corsodyl, bongela, iglu and steroid mouthwash doesn't help. I am currently using oragel which only numbs for 5 mins =(

I can't think of it at the moment but there used to be something in a spray bottle I used to use that numbed canker sores.

Talk with your doctor first but try chloraseptic.

I've tried that before when I first started getting sick a year and half ago, and that eventually stopped working they got that bad! I have brought some more today though and hope it helps (along with everything else in trying) until I see my doctor in a month!

that used to be the first sign things were going downhill terribly!

I am sorry your dr isn't any help!

It sucks as even when I was on 6mp, Humira and infliximab the odd one would pop up, as the only thing that got rid of them completely was iv steroids! And now I'm just stuck as to what to do!

Have you had your B12 levels checked? My Dr. said mouth sores are a sign of B12 deficiency. My B12 was super low, taking a sublinguinal supplement and no more mouth sores!
