I so need my allergy meds, like antihystamines, cough suppresant otc stuff. but dang, some of them upset my stomach. anyone else have this happen? My mom used to tell me they bothered her years ago. I thought it so strange at the time.

I haven't had any issues with cough meds or decongestants. I have recently used Benylin DM without any issues.

I generally don't experience any stomach upset with decongestants, no. It may help to take them after you've eaten, though. I do the same if I ever have to take an NSAID.

Which decongestants/cold medications are you taking?

I take otc stuff like guafenisin (sorry, I probably mispelled). you're right ocean, I never put it together- i need to eat something first. I should have thought of that!

In small amounts, I can tolerate advil cold/sinus. Seems to be the only one that really works for me. I try to use it only when necessary.

I tried some otc "cough and runny nose with dextrometorphan and chlorepehneramine. I tried the suggestion of eating something with it; and it helped a great deal- thx!

Wellhello what other Prescription and non-prescription medications are you on besides taking OTC meds for allergies? Also what is your specific diagnosis? The combination of certain medications and other things you take may contribute to your discomfort.

There is no harm in taking allergy medications for IBD per this article http://www.ccfa.org/living-with-crohns-colitis/tips-to-fighting-allergies.html

However it would be best to discuss with your doctor to determine your best solution for attacking the problem. One of them being something such as Claritin or Singulair to hopefully address allergies without the need to constantly resort to certain OTC medications that aggravate your stomach.
