Hi everything is my first post. I was diagnosed with crohns about 2 years ago I was on remicade for a while and then in January I stopped all medication for many reasons. Well I am now having a flare up again and lately it's been pretty severe. To top it off I was due for my period on the 4th and I still don't have it with no sign of it coming. I took a test on Saturday and it was negative. I was curious though if anyone else has had this happen to them. I have a doctors appointment next week but just looking to put my mind at ease till then. :) thanks

Hello, welcome to the forum.
Before I was diagnosed with crohns, I used to have lots of problems with my periods , they would always be late and very painful. My doctors tried lots of different medications and eventually put me on the mini pill.
Sometimes periods are late as a one off, maybe your cycle is just changing something like that, I've been told its even normal to just skip one sometimes (as long as it is just one) . Are you on any medications that could be affecting your cycle?

Hey thanks for the response. No I am not only any type of medication for that as when I was it effected my liver quite seriously. I normally always had regular periods but this information def helps put me at ease a little bit.

I'm usually like clock work with my periods, unless I start working with a new woman, then my cycle will switch to her cycle causing me to be late.

Are you spending time/working with anyone new?:)

my Gyn told me that if a woman in under any stress, whether health wise physically or mental/emotional stress, that will affect the monthly cycle.

Once the stress is gone, then the monthly cycle will resume. hope this helps.

During my flare in 09 I missed my period for 2 months because I was so sick. My GI was concerned and thought I was lying about my temporary abstinence and did a pregnancy test..that came back positive. For some reason my body had produced a very small amount of the pregnancy hormone.
It very well could just be stress, don't worry about it too much until you go to the doctor

I was just diagnosed, but since my symptoms started getting bad enough for me to seek medical attention, my periods have been irregular. Stress can mess up your periods too; when I left my ex-husband and was going through my divorce I was lucky to get a period every 3 months. Now I have been going 60 days between periods, but I had one three weeks ago and I'm getting another one all of a sudden.

CCFA does list irregular menstrual periods as a symptom of Crohn's FWIW.

I didn't realize you could get irregular menstrual with crohns. I am not diagnosed yet but I have very irregular and painful cycles. A co-worker tried telling me that she thinks I have endometriosis since I have such painful cycles and she thought the doctors were going down the wrong route with crohns.. I usually take advil for the pain and even that doesn't even help.

My period stops whenever my Crohn's is really flaring bad. I've had it stop for months at a time. And twice it even stopped for an entire year. I lost a lot of weight and was iron-deficient, so my body responded by halting my period (clearly I would not have been healthy enough to become pregnant).

You should definitely tell your doctor, but missing a period is not so uncommon even in moderately healthy people (as others here have relayed). I think I would freak out only if I had been sexually active and worried I was pregnant.

I am on the Nuva Ring, and I took it out yesterday, so my period should have started. It hasn't yet, though. My Crohn's is flaring right now, so I think that could be why it hasn't started. I took a pg test just to be on the safe side, but it was expired so I don't know how accurate it was.
