Apologies if this thread already exists.

I wondered how you guys get on with employment when relapsing?

I guess I'm mostly interested in people who have had to leave employment because of their crohn's as this is something I tend to worry about. I'm also interested in how your work supports you when you are ill for long periods.

I'm an architect and I love my job. I've missed so much of it due to illness though. They are very supportive and I always do what I can for them no matter what the situation is. (I've actually completed a large amount of work from a hospital bed). Lately I've been more and more distracted by my medical issues and increasingly embarrassed of myself for always being so ill. It (along with the stoma stuff I mentioned in the other thread) is making me increasingly self conscious on the three half-days per week that I go into the office.

How about you?

I have been retired almost six years. I had a resection seven years ago. After the surgery, it was stressful taking public transportation every weekday. Aftwr a little more than a year i retired. Everyone's situation is different. I wish you the best.

I work in the medical field. I work in a small rural hospital as an xray tech then am a part time EMT. I had a few years where I was pretty sick. I just reduced my hours as an EMT and they gave me lighter duties at the hospital. I've been very fortunate with my boss, however my job is a lot of weird hours and i don't get to eat at normal times which can really mess with me. But, I've learned to tough out a lot and use medications to help manage my symptoms. I have a lot of pain, but have been able to bear through it for work. Thankfully I'm in remission now and feeling great, so i've been working both jobs pretty heavily. I had to learn when I needed more rest and when to really watch what I eat. But I had a perforated bowel, and didn't miss any work from it. I was in the ER one night, started my medications and was back to work the next day. I don't let much keep me down.
