Hi, everyone.
I just recently joined this forum and I love it. I found out I had Crohn's last year. I got the depo shot for the first time February 2012 within a few weeks I was in a terrible flare and by May was diagnosed with Crohn's. I also had my last shot in May.

I was wondering if anyone else took the depo shot and if it possibly causes flare ups?

Secondly, since my shot expired in August, we've been actively ttc. No luck as of yet. I was wondering for those of you who've taken the shot how long it takes to become pregnant after quiting it, it took you to fall pregnant.

Thanks in advance. I'd like to hear any and all stories about ttc . I've got a bad case of the baby fever along with my Crohn's :rosette1:

it takes time for the body to regulate itself so ttc may take a while. also fyi, hormones will wreak havoc on your gut, even birth control patches, shots, the pill, etc.so there are other ways to try and avoid conception such as condoms, abstaining, and natural holistic ways that are much safer & can be used successfully when taught by an instructor who's an RN.

There have been articles written that birth control can kill off any good bacteria in the gut, cause weight gain, mood swings, have serious drug interactions with the meds we take such as antibiotics, cause PEs, dvts, stroke, and sometimes aggravate a flare. But to each his own. always talk to your MD about what is best for you.

Judy wrote an article on women and hormones...go to the Wiki section for more information. good luck to you.

Do you think that the depo caused your crohns? I am having all sorts of female issues ( fibroids and pelvic pain) and also have been having intestinal pain and issues for the last 2 years now. I am not diagnosed yet though. I sooo would love to get on some sort of BC due to the severe pain I get, especially with my periods. I have not due to blood clotting issues though. I mean were you just doing the depo in order to prevent pregnancy or was it for pain or endo??

No, I don't think it caused my Crohn's. However, I do believe it caused a flare. I only got two shots and shortly after each I was doubled over in pain for weeks. Maybe not, maybe just bad timing, but it had other side effects, such as mood swings and depression. I personally do not recommend the shot. I'd talk to my doctor though and see what option is best for you!! : )
