Drained Abscess Still Infected

Hi Everyone,

I need some advice. I just had my third abscess in 5 weeks drained and packed with rubber (the rubber is sutured to my skin) that is not a seton (it is long and flat). The problem I am facing is that the area surrounding the abscess is still very inflamed with infection. It is on my bum, towards my groin and down my leg.

The surgeon I saw put me under to perform the drainage and to check if it was a fistula (they say it isn't). But it still looks very infected to me.

Has anyone else ever been sent home with a draining abscess that is very inflamed and sore? In the other two cases of abscesses in my experience they were completely drained and packed with sterile strips before I was sent home.

Any advice or experience you might have would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Diagnosed with Crohn's in July 2011
First on Pentasa 4000 mg per day
Now on Prednisone 25mg per day, cipro 1000 mg per day, flagyl 1000mg per day
Was on Imuran 100 mg per day (experienced joint pain and high fevers)
No idea what medicine to take next. My GI wants me on Remicade but I would prefer a drug like Pentasa (my colonoscopy shows little inflammation my big problem just seems to be these stupid abscesses):sign0085:

I've been sent home with abscesses still draining and infected, but I've never had anything like the piece of rubber you've described. You should probably get it looked at ASAP.
