Drs in Detroit/Ann Arbor Michigan?

Crohn's Disease Forum

Help Support Crohn's Disease Forum:

Unfortunetly, I'm down in FL so I can't help with the doc. I'd suggest talking to your regular GI to see what they can do. I don't see why they wouldn't be able to help answer questions about if it's a good treatment option for you. If so, they should be able to prescribe it.

Good luck. <3

Thanks Jessica. My son's doctor refused to give him LDN because it has not passed the drug tests. He was very opposed to it. We still plan to keep him as our GE because he's good except for this option. I'll just buy it somewhere else!
Thanks for your response.

If you don't mind me asking, who is your current GI? I'm living near Novi and I drive to UMich in Ann Arbor to see Dr. Higgins. I lik ehim but I've only seen him once since my move to Michigan.

My son's Gastroenterologist (GI?) is Dr. Alan Cutler out of Providence hospital. He is adamant about not prescribing LDN for Mark. I have tried to talk to him about other non-traditional approaches to no avail. He wants Mark on Imuran and Remicade, which seem radical to me in a different, more harmful way. Mark thinks he does not have a severe case of Crohn's, but in my research I have found that he is in worse shape than most people and getting worse.

Does this Dr. Higgins give you LDN? If so, what's his first name? Ann Arbor isn't too far from Livonia. Are you happy with Dr. Higgins? Can I contact him? I know you've only seen him once, but I've love to know what you think of him.

Thank you for responding.

I've not asked Dr. Higgins for LDN, I did try it when I was with a smaller practice back in Indiana, but I failed that treatment. I'm currently on weekly Humira and 250mg of Imuran for my Crohn's (my case is kinda vigorous)

Dr. Higgins is okay so far. I'm not very happy with the staff right now, because they refuse to do my Humira refill for me and I don't know how to do it (never have had to set that up). I was surprised when I went to him and he offered me more options than my other doc who said I've got Humira and if that fails I'm gonna have to have a total colectomy. Dr. Higgins realizes there are some things I haven't tried (methotrexate) and that there's still some play in my dosing. I just can't say how I really feel till I go back. But he does use MR-endoscopies for benchmarks in some cases over a colonoscopy. At least thats what he gave me. And he even checked my bone density levels and is trying to figure out why some of my liver enzymes are elevated. These are all things I never had at other docs offices.

Here's his info: http://www2.med.umich.edu/pcdv2/pro...dual_id=80928&um_department=Internal Medicine

But I think you have to have a current physician refer you to them. I didn't call on my own, I had my previous doctor move everything over for me.

I asked Dr Higgins about LDN at a forum that U of M had, he scoffed at it! I was thinking about the LDN course, but I am on 6mp/and Allopurinol...I am out of Henry Ford with a great dr. I have not heard much about Providence. Dr Silverman out of Henry Ford is well respected as well as Higgins. I would try anything for my kid! Bless you! And Good luck! Sue

P.S. When I was looking for LDN, I found that the Chicago area had some Dr's, I don't recall anyone in MI :( --Good luck

Sue

Thank you so much for the info about Dr. Higgins. That's one more doc I can cross off my list. So sad. Oh well. Better now than after we spend a bunch of time. Thank you for your support.
