Hello fellow crohnies!! So it seems nearly impossible for me to stay out of the ER. Its routiene that I finally feel better and something else sneaks up on me....ugh!! SO on Saturday I woke up with horrific pain in my legs, really fatigued and miserable. I tried everything for the pain and pain meds were the only thing that barely helped. So I went in for the leg pain and passing huge clots of tissue looking stuff....and I mean huge!! So I came to find out that I have Group B strep UTI!! And Ive had it for so long that its actually damaging my female organs. The did antibiotics on me and sent me on my way with prescription. So heres the deal.....Ive had it for about 8 months!! WOW, one thing after another. So Im on Leviquin....and still not feeling too much better. I know that antibiotics are dangerous for me with the crohns.....I just dont know wht to do anymore....any suggestions would help!

Oh my. I'm sorry to hear that. I too know what it's like to have the ER as a second home though, even if its for beets Christmas morning. :p

I must be one of the few people who know nothing about crohns and antibiotics. I'll have to do some research on the subject cause this is the second thread I've gone to suggesting that crohns and antibiotics just don't go well. I have much to learn! I hope you start feeling better.

Wow! That's a doozy! Good thing you went to the ER when you did - you could have become septic and that's really bad!

Be careful of the Levaquin. If you start to get any tendon pain, STOP taking it immediately and call your doc. This would likely start in either your achilles or groin tendons. Same goes for Cipro as it is in the same class of antibiotics.

Good luck - I hope the infection clears up quickly and completely. - Amy

((((((( Bev )))))))) Sorry to hear you are having such a tough time of it....

With having an infection for so long, it is going to take a few days before things start to feel better. I would imagine you are on the Levaquin for ten days. It is fairly important that you finish it all. I think the doctor has perscribed such an antibiotic because you have had infection for so long.... it really sucks (and upsets me) that someone didn't catch it sooner.

Antibiotics are only bad for Crohn's if they are really broad spectrum that kill all the "good" bavteria in the intestine...as this leads to diarrhea and possible other problems. Keep taking the Levaquin if isn't giving you really bad diarrhea. I would advise taking some acidophilus or other probiotic with it, as this helps reduce the cahnces of the nasty "D" side effect...lol.

If you start to notice bad diarrhea (not sure if you deal with this on a regular basis or not...so basically if it gets worse....) stop taking the antibiotic and get ahold of your doctor immediately and tell them what happened.

I hope it starts to clear up for you soon!
