I don't have my medical history from before age 4 (I was adopted) but know that since then I have not had chickenpox or the vaccine. Have out-of-town guest wanting to arrive in five days who was diagnosed with shingles today. I know that shingles is contagious only through actual contact with a blistering sore, but I am still a little nervous. Does Crohn's classify us as "immuno compromised" autoatically or only if on biologics or steroids? (I am only on Pentasa). Don't want to over-react by saying don't come, but at same time don't want to get sick...

Immunosupressed if on immunosuppressants such as 6-mp Aza or mtx or biologics
But crohns makes it harder to fight off other diseases since your body is already working hard

That said Ds was 7 when he was exposed to shingles ( DH came down with them )
Ds was in 6-mp at the time
We were told he would not get shingles since he hadn't had the chickenpox but he could get chicken pox from it .
Ds had been vacinated twice ( as a baby and before kindy )
To be safe after exposure they did titers on chicken pox and stated if he had any symptoms he was going to get gamma globulin injections
So not something minor in his case
Luckily he did not develop chicken pox
His titers were good

But not sure if it's worth the risk
I would ask your Gi
And find out when shingles is not contagious anymore
Good luck
