face-to-face support groups?

I have ulcerative colitis and have been dealing with a bad flare. I've been wondering whether a face-to-face support group might be helpful and, if so, how I'd find one. I'm afraid they'd just be depressing. And right now I can barely leave my apartment so I don't know how I'd attend a face-to-face group, but hope springs eternal.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Thanks.

:bigwave: Hi there, welcome to the forum, I read all your posts and you are indeed in need of support. Perhaps you could answer a few questions. What country are you in? Are you male or female, sorry but I dont know yet. Do you have any children?

All these factors could help us help. We are here to help best way we can. We are not doctors but we certainly know how you are feeling. Everyone is different in pain controll, meds, severity, different side effects, and pain tolerance. NO one is called a whiner here. Having Crohns a long time whether you suffered long time or short times, you have been through alot and that speaks volumes for a heartache! Please hang in there. If we knew abit more about you, others can come on here help you more.

Face on help, is depending on where you live, Canada, has a chapter close by you, check it out, www.CCFC.ca or in the states CCFA.com. I am sure the US will correct the addy.

Welcome again lots of friendly people here !:goodluck:

I deleted my previous post - too much information. Thanks for your interest, but I'm not comfortable sharing all that. Should have followed my first instinct. :(

I have checked out ccfa.org (US) and I don't see anything about face-to-face meetings. On the other hand, I just read an article in the NY Times Wellness Blog that has dissuaded me on going this route. But thanks for responding.

My local hospital runs a group for 18-30 people which is really cool and I've made some girlfriends who can totally relate etc The IBD nurse at the hospital set it up so you could always check your hospital out and see if they do :)
