How can I tell if the pain I'm feeling is a fissure or hemorrhoid? I have both internal and external hemorrhoids. My diarrhea has been more active for the past week, and now I have extreme burning and itching with every bowel movement and usually for about an hour or so after. I noticed that there is a bit of bright red blood when I wipe. The pain is more intense where I don't have a hemorrhoid. So I was wondering if it is a fissure or just my hemorrhoids.

Does it even matter?

It could be the hemorrhoids that are bleeding. Frequency and wiping over and over can irritate them. Guess it depends on how much blood we're talking. Simple spots of blood can just be irritation. Larger spots could be a bleeding hemorrhoid. A little more blood with possibly a yellowish discharge may be a fissure (but they can also leave very small amounts of blood). Its unknown which (to me anyway :p) is causing your problem.

Does it even matter, well according to what I read a fissure is not life threatening and can be treated at home just like hemorrhoids. If there's a lot of bleeding then you'll want to have it looked at for sure and if its a really bad fissure then there is medication for it and if needed surgery (but it doesn't sound that serious at the moment to me at least).

Here's info on anal fissures: http://www.webmd.com/digestive-disorders/tc/anal-fissure-topic-overview

Linda....I dont think it matters. I think what matters now is getting rid of it.

Many times hemorrhoids are a symptom of inflammation in your diet. Try eliminating sources of inflammation like gluten, dairy, sugar, and coffee. See if that helps.

Just tried this hemorrhoid remedy and it helped.

how long does a hemorroid take to heal. I`ve had bleeding off and on for weeks. I`ve been using a prescribed cream. My stool samples indicate the bleeding is not coming from the bowel but i`m feeling pretty worn down. Has anyone had a stubborn one that took awhile to go away and was bleeding?
