Anybody else out there actually pass formed stool out of there fistula before? I have been passing gas for months from my Paristomal fistula with clear or yellowish discharge, but over the last several weeks it has actually turned to formed stool and lots of gas (more gas passes thru it than my stoma). It's is also increasingly painful, I have a surgery date lined up on Feb 24th and am hoping I can put up with it that long.

Yes. I have passed stool. It's usually pretty loose, but I would say semi-solid. Good luck with your surgery. What surgery are you having?

I pass fecal matter through my fistuale. I've been told my ileocecal valve barely opens anymore, and the fistulae was allowing for digestive matter to pass. Gross....

oh yeah, i get stool through mine. usually when it's a slightly more soft movement. it got really bad at one point. i once had broccoli come through it. totally freaked me out. :ywow:

Peristomial fistula? Is it an ileostomy? and what surgery are they doing, I mean, are they relocating the ostomy or just resection. Are they doing it laparoscopy or the full surgery? I am waiting for an appointement with the surgeon. My GI thinks Ill have to go for the whole operation, as important as the one I got for my ileostomy at first... all that to remose a few centimeters at the very end of my ileum... I guess right where the ostomy is to remove the what... 4 or 5 fistula that I got over the last months... And yes... there was stool coming out at some point, not anymore since I am on lots of antibiotics...

I'm a bit worried about that whole surgery story so if anyone has experience to share about that... peristomial fistula does not seem to be the most frequent either.

I wish you the best luck with your surgery, hopefully you won't feel too bad until then..

Its actually a colostomy and the stricture is located about 1 foot from the stoma in the transverse colon.
The surgon by looking at the CT thinks he will have to remove close to a foot of bowel but will only know for sure when he gets in there. He is hoping to bring the ostomy out where it was before but says that all depends how complicated the fistula is and at worst will need to relocate.
So going for the full surgery my 3rd major one but the first two were emergencys, 1 a bad rupture and the other an obstruction, this is the first one I get a chance to prepare for and I am hoping for the best :)
