Flu Shot on Remicade

As long as its the dead virus and you run it by your GI to make sure he doesn't want you to do it a certain week between infusions, it is not a problem. Now there is is also Flumist which is a live virus that is sprayed into your nose and this one is a no no, I think. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

General consensus is that the nasal viral mist is a no no. Personally i am not a fan of the flu shot. I haven't taken a flu shot in years and i didn't even while i was on humira during flu season. I haven't gotten the flu since. I believe as long as you eat right you can defend your self against the flu virus. But talk with your G.I. and see what he or she thinks.

Not a fan of flu shots or vaccines in general, but if you feel you are at risk of catching the flu- as in work in medical field or with small children- then talk to your doctor first, but the general consensus is that dead vaccines are okay, just no live vaccines.

I had a flu jab last year and the nurse was saying that she has a weakened immune system as well. She caught the flu and was hospitalised with pneumonia because of it, since then she has always had the jab.

It wont stop you catching the flu (they only use a few strains that are likely to be popular that year) but it greatly decreases the chance.

Im having it done this year as well, better to be safe than sorry

The shot is safe, but you cannot get live viruses while on Remi (which the nasal mist is). Being immune-suppressed, you're 'supposed' to get the shot every year, but it's up to you. I work for a hospital and am required to get it (or provide a doc's note as to why I cannot and my doc thinks I should get it, so that's out). Even though I don't work IN the hospital or with patients (I'm an analyst), it's a company-wide policy. They bring them to our office and we line up and get our jabs.
