My son has been prescribed a weeks course of flucloxicillin for a bacteria on his skin after surgery. He is already on low dose cipro but I've just read about methotrexate ( which he is on) and flucloxicillin might not be good together, reluctant to start it now and I still cant get in touch with his ibd team to ask their advice. Xx

The NHS has published details of adverse reactions between methotrexate and flucloxacillin as well as other penicillins
I would be in touch with the doctor who prescribed it before starting it,keep trying to reach them
Are you able to talk with the pharmacist in the meantime if you are unable to reach the doctor.
Hugs and best wishes
Trysha

Thanks Trysha, I'm hoping his ibd nurse will call back on Monday. I'm going to hold off until I know for sure just to be n safe side. He had a right helicolectomy 4 weeks ago and doing really good apart from the little area at his belly button that is weeping. X

Our ped prescribed a penicilin and an mtx warning was flagged. Apparently it increases the effect of mtx. Our GI said not to worry at the lower dose that my daughter was on for IBD but I would definitely wait and call the GI.

Sorry dodie, didn’t see this thread earlier. I have responded in your keyhole site thread.
