General Crohn's questions, can you answer ?

I have been diagnosed with this disease, for some reason I'm not so convinced about the diagnosis as well as multiple other doctors.
They saw in the colonoscopy a small ulcer in my colon and the analysis said it might go with Crohn's disease.

My symptoms are colon cramps when stressed, pain near the belly button that comes and goes, constipation most of the time, sometimes diarrhea and irregular stool shapes. But I'm not really sure about the food.

I have been on cortisone for about 2 months but not feeling that much better.

However I would like to get some answers about this disease from this beautiful community.

1. Could an ulcer determine if you have IBD ? Or there should be an inflammation?
2. When you eat something that bothers you do you feel it right away, minutes, hours, day ? what do you experience ?
3. How long have you been in remission and do you consider your crohn controllable ?

Welcome. I think that it would take more than an ulcer to determine if you have Crohns. I could be wrong. Sometimes, for me, it seems like I can feel the effects of what I ate right away and other times it could be the next day. I was only in remission from 1997-2005. I don't consider my Crohns controllable right now.

1. An ulcer could be a sign of Crohn's without inflammation if perhaps they inflammation has died down due to therapy or just the cyclic nature of the disease. Stated another way, in Crohn's inflammation would have likely caused the ulcer, but the inflmammation may no longer be much in evidence at the time they did the colonoscopy.

2. I can't say. Food doesn't bother me much one way or the other. I'm very fortunate in that respect.

3. I've been in remission about 3 years, and most cases of Crohn's are controllable with proper medical care from a GI, especially an IBD specialist GI.
