guess where I am!

Hello all my lovelies.
have not been on here for a few days.
Got my bag sorted at last. Got a convex one with a belt. So much better.
So, got up this morning and nearly passed out. Had chest pain and could not catch my breath.
Another nice ride in an ambulance and here I am, back in hospital. Turns out I have got 2 pulminary embolisms in my lungs!
Starting on warfrin(sp?) and having a heart scan tomorrow to check my heart.
Will update when I can.

Hi Shazz
What rotten luck you have.
Still you are in the best place to get it sorted and soon you'll be running all the way home---I hope.
Feel better soon
Hugs and best wishes
Trysha

Thanks guys. Scared the crap out of me when it happened. It was just so fast! I know I am in the right place and will get sorted.

Lots better than this morning Misty. Still got a lot of pain. Had 2 lots of warfrin now so off to a good start. Xxxxxxx

Crap Shazz, you dont need this. How are the kids handling this? They are tough though, like their mum! I know they will get you sorted out. My neighbour (retired nurse in her 80's) says this isnt unusual a complication!?
Huh? Oh dear!
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Ran away from hom did ya?? Wrong place to go to!!! You must of been scared, but please look after yourself and keep us posted ok? Hugs!!!!xxx

I was the most scared I have ever been in my life! It just came out of nowhere.
The boys are being right troopers. I, somehow, managed to keep it together until I got in the back of the ambulance. So although they knew I was poorly, they didnt realise how serious it was.
Pen I really should pick my destinations better!
Have just seen the senior respiritory consultant and he said what they first thought was 2 medium size embolisms is in fact a substantial sized one!
It really could only happen to me! Am having daily injections of clexaine(sp?) and big doses of warfrin. In till at least monday.
xxxxxxxxxx

Oh dear. So they think these drugs will disolve this big embolism then? I'm so sorry this has happened!
Huggggggggggggggssssssssssssssssssssss xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi shazz!!

Gosh, I am sorry this is happening to you!!! Good lord. You've been through it all recently. I hope for a speedy recovery for you! Big hugs. Hope you are doin gokay.

Oh **** sorry to hear that hope u feel better soon. I'm back in too for bloods etc I too got convex and belt so far so good.

Oh **** is right! Hope you feel better soon - my boss went through this a couple years ago now - bounced back from it ok although he had to take warfarin for a while after his hospitalization....

Just take care of yourself, glad you got help quickly!

I almost missed this thread! I had 2 PE's in my lungs after surgery too...scary as hell! Hopefully the warfarin works for you (I was on it for 4 months and they couldn't get my INR levelled off and they finally gave up...lol). Rest up..that's all you can do.

Sorry to hear that Shazz.....I too had a pulmonary embolism after surgery so I know how scary (and painful) it is. The Clexaine and Warfarin will soon get you back on track.

Hope you feel better very soon.

Costas

Thanks everyone. Breathing is easier but still got lot of pain. Am on complete bed rest so have no choice!

OMG Shazz!!! This totally sucks, I reckon the hospital will have some sort of loyalty card to give you at the rate your going. Hope you feel better soon hun, sending super squishy hugs

Thanks everyone. Breathing is easier but still got lot of pain. Am on complete bed rest so have no choice!

I am so sorry you are still in pain. I am hoping that the bed rest is going to help. I am wishing and hoping and praying that you are out in no time!

Oh man Shazz......PE's are just awful. :(

The meds will soon kick in and dissolve those little buggers! And yes, it is the injection is Clexane.

Good luck hun, I hope all goes well and you are soon breaking outta there.

Dusty.

Found out it is a big one that is affecting one third of my lung. Might be here for sometime!
its frustrating me because I am not even allowed to walk to the loo! If I am honest I wouldnt make it but still its frustrating.
I know I am in the best place and its for my own good, but still!!
I cant even change my bag myself because. I need to look down and I cant do that and maintain conciousness!!!

Whoa, you didn't do things in halves Shazz! And yes! don't walk around, I know you won't, you don't want to mobilise that big Kahuna!

Ah hell Shazz, I can well imagine how frustrated and disappointed you must feel. Sending loads of love and well wishes your way...:heart::heart:

Dusty. :ghug:

I'm not sure you should even be on your moby! I cant imagine how you are dealing...I go nuts in hospital, but being completely immobile...errrrrrrrrrgh!!!

Lets hope the meds kick in NOW and start knocking that nasty thing on its ass!

Its true. When I do something I go all out! I would be totally lost without my mobile! They can take my mobility but they will never take my mobile!
I dont know how I am coping. I just am!
I have always been a person who does not stress or worry about things that are out of my control. And lets face it, there is nothing more out of my control than this. I think the antidepressants aree helping big time as well!
Will let you know how things go tomorrow. Should be having an ecg sometime. Just had my warfarin tablets 10mg dose. Dont know if thats normal or not.
xxxxxx

Oh shazz, so sorry to hear you are back in the hospital! Rest up and hopefully the pain eases up soon!

The start you at 10mg of warfarin and then adjust as they test your INR. I wound up being on 12mg after I got out of hospital. You'll notice an improvement within days. I was only in ICU for 3 days then they moved me back to the regular ward and I was able to get up and move around again. Blood clots are such a pain (literally and figuratively!). I just stayed in bed and watched lots of dvds. Not a bad way to spend one's time...lol

Oh dear Shazz. I'm sorry to hear you're back in the hospital.
Hope you're feeling better and get your mobility back soon.

Hi Shazz,

Hope you are feeling better. I had multiple PEs in both lungs, but just out of the blue, nothing to do with surgery. I had a terrible reaction to the Warfarin too - looked like I had the plague!!! I had to have a larger dose of Fragmin for 6 months.

I am back in for more surgery on Wednesday but I have just found out I have another condition that puts me at high risk of clots.

I understand Crohnies are more likely to get PEs anyway and surgery, because we are lying still for so long, can make clots more likely. That is why they get us up and moving as soon as they can Niki.

Good Luck xxx

Have had a rough couple of days. They have picked up what they think is a murmur on my heart so having a scan tomorrow. They have upped my pain meds and trying to get that sorted so hopefully that will help with the breathing. Although I am not on a respiratory ward the staff have been amazing. Had a couple of real bad turns and they all come running, with the obs machines and ecg machine. They are also not afraid to get the docs down to see me if they are unsure. I feel very safe and well cared for here. That does help a lot. Being reviewed tomorrow so will update when I find out what they want to do with me. I still cant walk unaided or without getting breathless so wont be going anywhere until I and they are happy that I can cope at home. Love and hugs to you all. Xxxxxxxxxx

Not sounding good Shazz. But I just know they are going to get you sorted! That big of a problem isnt going to resolve itself overnight. You keep fighting young lady! Keep us posted after they see you tomorrow?
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Thanks misty and rachel. Everyone is baffled as to how it formed and how I managed to function with it. I know it will take time and its never been in my nature to quit or give up. I do not intend to start now. Thank you everyone for all your support, as always. It means the world to me and it really does help a lot. Xxxxxxx

Shazz, so sorry to hear you are having such a rough time! Glad to hear that you have an excellent healthcare team! Carol

Hi Shaz,
Sorry to hear your problems have not yet resolved.
Good to hear you are being well looked after and hope everything goes well for you tomorrow.
These things do take time, won't be long before you are running around the ward.!.
Feel better soon
Hugs and best wishes
Trysha

Oh sweetheart it's just one thing after another  I too am glad that you have a good team looking after you and I really hope the scan is clear. Keep us updated when you can.

xxxx

Oh my goodness Shazz...:hug::hug::hug:

I hope they are able to sort things for you very soon! :getwell:

Loads of love...:Karl:
Dusty. xxxxxxxx

Goodness girl. You're really doing it up in style there, aren't ya? I hope everything starts getting better for you soon!!!! let us know how your scan went and how you are doing.

big hugs xoxo

Had a rough couple of days.
Got up tuesday morning went to the loo and had chest pain again. Then started to cough. Obs and sats were good. They think that the clot is either moving or there is some stuff in my lungs and that is getting infected.
My heart scan they sent me an outpatients appointment for 9th March! Couldnt believe it. Showed the staff nurse who was looking after me today and she was disgusted. She has phoned them and arranged for me to have it either thursday or friday this week.
I have such a good team looking after me.
the doc wanted to send me home friday. Everyone of the staff has said the docs will have to go through them before they can discharge me. I am nowhere near ready to go home. Have been on enforced bed rest for a week.
I will update you when I can tomorrow or friday.
Just sleeping most of the day today. My legs dont feel as if they belong to me, feel dizzy whenever I stand up and then go all shaky and sweaty. The docs are trying to put it down to me being over anxious! Yes I am nervous about going home too early but those of you who know me will know I dont get anxious about anything!
xxxxxxxxx

thanks for the update Shazz :)

Can't believe they gave you an outpatient appointment....ridiculous!!

Hope they get you all fixed up soon xx

An out patient appt! What prat asked for that!?! I am glad the nurse got it sorted for you though and I really hope you can feel better soon hun, as always keep us updated.

xxxx

Hi Shazz
Good to hear from you although it would be even nicer to hear you are over all this.
It is unbelievable what some docs get up to and absolutely appalling that they would even consider sending you home at this stage.
They must let you get better first .
Also that scan needs to be done while you are in the hospital.
Feel better soon
Hugs and best wishes
Trysha

Shazz I'm so glad you have good nurses there! Cant believe that they wanted to send you home for one, and booked an outpatient appt for you for a scan. Unbelievable!

I'm really sorry you are feeling so shaky. I dont think you have anxiety either, I think laying in bed, although necessary has caused muscle weakness etc. On top of the blood clot, that would make sense for the shaking I would think.

I am hoping that by this time next week, you are posting from your garden watching the birds and feeling sooo much better!

Hi Shazz, sorry to hear you're still not doing great. Glad they are looking after you well though.

Are you having a physio to come and see you often? I'm not suprised you feel the way you do when you stand up with all you've been through! I felt like that right after my op so hopefully it'll get better with more practice!

Hi michelle. Not having physio as they have said they aere not happy getting me up and walking when I still have chest pain.

My not nice consultant came to see me today. He made me walk from one end of the ward to the other. Have not walked in a week. Nearly passed out 3 times. He didnt watch me walk or anything. He asked me how I felt and I told him I nearly passed out. He told me I looked ok!
he then told me I would be going home friday or saturday. I am still in a lot of pain, am on paracetamol, tramadol and oramorph and it still hurts. I am coughing a lot although my chest is clear. I feel horrendous.
The staff came in to see me when he had gone to see what he said. They were disgusted that he had made me walk that far and not offered me any help or support. They have said they wont let me go home until they are happy that I am out of danger and medically fit to leave.
Its ridiculous. For the size of clot I have they wanted me home after just 5 days. I have now been here 8 days and I still dont feel happy about going home.
I will let you know what happens tomorrow.
xxxxxxxxxxx

Just wanted to say a big thank you to all of you again for your support.
A few kind words go a long way.
Had a horrid night again. Have got a bloody irritating dry cough. Each time I cough it goes straight through my poorly chest which hurts even when I breath! My chest is clear so there is nothing the docs will do. The nurses, though, they have given me linctus stuff in hot water to sip. That helps for a while. Constantly sipping water so my throat does not get dry.
Not that I want a chesty cough, but if there was something on my chest at least they could give me something for it. It does feel as though there is something on my chest but there isnt.
More later.
xxxxxxxxx

Hi Shazz,

Ooo I remember that cough well. Not nice when you have just had surgery too. I found linctus with codeine in was the best.

I do hope things improve for you soon, and you can enjoy the summer with your boys.

Love Kaz xxx

Told my consultant I didnt want to go home until I felt confident and well enough. He has agreed to complete my paperwork and has agreed to let me decide when I want to go home.
That is what I call a result!!
Still feel a bit ropey so having a nice quiet day today.
Xxxxxxxxxx

Good result! I am glad he's on your side. Now you can just concentrate on getting well xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Some consultants do seem to discharge really early. I was admitted on wednesday as I was so anaemic again I could hardly talk to my gastro consultant.I was admitted to the emergency short stay ward and hooked up to blood. The emergency care doc discharged me last night even though still bleeding. My gastro consultant came to see me last night about 20minutes after discharge only to find me gone!
He rang me saying...where did you go...so I told him. He was not overly impressed.

Shazz, so glad to hear you are standing your ground with this consultant! I firmly believe we know our bodies best! I can't wait until this is a distant memory for you. Wishing you an uneventful recovery from here out! :)

Was having the usual second thoughts again this evening. Am I really poorly enough? You know what I mean.
Well, just finished a horrendous coughing fit that was so bad it gave me a nose bleed!
Uuummm yep, I think I am still poorly enough.
Xxxxxxxxxx

Hi Shazz
Never give up never give in!
Good on you that you stood your ground.
You certainly don't sound fit enough for home.
Keep in with the nurses---they know what they are doing.
Onward and upwards---get well soon.
Hugs and best wishes
Trysha

Thanks trysha.
I am so glad I am on the ward I am. The staff have been so good to me. Slthough I am on an orthopedic ward and the staff have admitted that what I have got is over their training I have never felt safer or more cared for. They dont hesitate to do ecg's, have had 4 since I have been in, also they bleep the docs if they are not happy with how I am.
I really could not ask for better care.
The staff nurse has even offered to lie in order to ensure my continued care!
xxxxxxx

Shazz, have they figured out why you are coughing so much? How is the clot? Is it reducing yet?

Misty the girls on the ward are trying to find out what is going on. The docs are happy to discharge you if your sats are above 90, your temp is under 37.5 and your blood pressure isnt too high or too low.
I think the docs are happy to discharge you if you are awake!
The clot is still pretty much the same size from what they have said. About it moving - they dont know!
my chest is still sore. And it feels like I aam breathing through cotton wool. Its the only way I can put into words what its like. Feels like there isnt enough oxygen but my sats are always above 90 so thats all they worry about. From all the coughing my throat is raw and I can taste blood when I swallow.
I dont want anything else but am in a bay where 3 out of 5 have got pneumonia, 1 has got a serious chest infection and the other one has not got a cough yet.
Will update more later. Am going to try to get an hours sleep before breakfast.
xxxxxxxxxx

I hope you feel better soon Shaz. It's not like you want to be in hospital but if you are going to end up at home panicking and getting breathless etc you will only end up back in.
I don't think there is anything worse than not being able to breath and add that to the uncertainty of having a big clot in your lung it is understandable you want to be better than you are before you go home.
Take care, I'm sure you will feel better enough for home soon.

Hi Shazz,
Have they prescribed heparin for you and what are they doing about the clot.
Are you on an anticoagulant regime.
What is the opinion of the cardiology and respirology consultants, and what are they doing to help the situation.?
It could be very important that you are not left to lie in bed all the time, movement will help the circulation to keep going., but has to be carefully supervised.
I feel so sorry for you having to fight for the proper medical care.
Its great that the nurses are on your side, always a big plus.
Feel better soon
Hugs and best wishes
Trysha

Am on warfarin. Have inr bloods done every other day. Not able to walk very far as keep passing out. Nobody except me and the nurses seem concerned about it though. Will have a scan in 3 months time to see if the clot is breaking down. If not I will have another scan in another 3 months time. Having an assessment with the physiotherapists on monday but only because I asked for it.

You should get them to do your sats on air , then go for a walk and recheck them to see if there is a big sats drop on exertion. If you are having a big drop it could explain the passing out.

I cant help but think that the dry hot air in there isnt helping you with a cough. I remember being in there coughing, and I wasnt even sick.

Your muscles are just wasting away, and you had to ASK for a physio??

Good lord! They seem pretty blasé about the whole thing! Thank god you have a good head on your shoulders, and the nurses! :yfaint:

Thinking of you hun,

Had a really dizzy, tired and sleepy day today.
To top it all off am now also having another flare in my stump. Am bleeding as well. Am slightly worried about this as I am on warfarin as well now.
Will see how it goes. Have got some suppositries to use.
Will update tomorrow.
Assessment day tomorrow!

Hi Shaz
Sorry you are not having a better day.
Keep your chins up!
Hope tomorrow things will improve for you.
Give the nurses a big hug from Canada!!
Feel better soon
Hugs and best wishes

Shazz...sweetheart. I can only send you..:rosette2: and hugs. Time for all this to get better now!

I'm actually thinking you might be better in another ward with GI's and other consultants and specialist nurses pretty soon. And....less stress!

Oh Shazz, this is soo unfair, it's just one thing after another for you :(I really hope tomorrow the docs can sort something to get you better and outta there...you don't have to see the nasty one do you?

Sending super squishy hugs

xxxx

Shazz you poor thing, I hope the suppositories help settle the flare without you needing oral pred.

PS Did you ever get the final report saying if UC or Crohn's - it will have been reported ages ago.

Get well soon. And good luck for assessment day.

Unfortunately I do have to see the stupid doc. He is my respiratory consultant.
I am going to get them to bleep my IBD nurse in the morning and see if she can come up.
I am so tired. Trying to stay positive but it seems that when I get one thing sorted something else goes wrong.
Oh well. Tomorrow is another day!

And now because of all the meds I have been having I have got oral thrush! Never had anything like it before but my tongue is awful. They have given me nystatin oral solution. Tastes nice!
am also allergic to Tramadol. Bloody great. Another one to add to the growing list. They think that is why I have been having my palpitations, sleepyness and some trouble with my waterworks.
just had some oramorph and a piriton. Going to try to go to sleep now.
had to wait for my docs to come and prescribe my warfarin. The staff beeped them over 7 hours ago. The ortho docs have just given it to me. The resiritory docs here are so up their own assess!
xxxxxxx

Maybe off the tramadol you will feel much better. You never know it may have been partly responsible for your feeling dizzy when walking.
Nystan works quite quickly- it does taste nice, I find it difficult to keep it my mouth for long enough- bit like not licking your lips when eating a jam doughnut or not chewing a fruit pastille....god, I'm rambling now!

Best of luck for today.

I have refused all my tramadol doses so far. My rash and itching is getting worse. I know the tramadol needs to get out of my system. Its driving me nuts! I was not on the tramadol when I did my first walk when I nearly passed out. Might still affect me now though.

Have not slept again all night. Mixture of pain, waiting for meds and little old ladies pulling their venflons out.
Am trying to stay positive for my assessment today. Cant see straight am so tired. Will do my best. At least if I pass out I will be in the right place!
Will let you all know how it goes.
Xxxxxxxxxx

Shazz, you poor thing! I hope you catch a break soon! I will be thinking of you and sending positive vibes your way!

You know Shazz, if the doc does think you are ok being home, you may be better off at home. You can take your pain killers when you want, eat when and what you want and have much better sleep. You would probably stress less about seeing your least favourite doc as well.
Just a thought.
And if your rash gets more itchy ask for a short course oral pred - it will settle your rash with it being an allergic one and also help with your flare in the stump.

Had my assessment. Went really well. Just waiting to see my IBD nurse about what else I can do.
Oh yes also waiting for the respiritory team to sort out my warfarin. Just for a change.
Also waiting for them to sort out my pain relief. So far they have only given me paracetamol. I cant have oramorph at home and that is the only thing that takes the edge off.
Oh well. Will just sit here and wait some more!
will be off home once its all sorted.
Xxxxxxxxxx

You can have oramorph at home. Who said you can't. Its not even considered a controlled drug as it is the lowest dose oral morphine.
Glad your assessment went well.
So are you home today then. If they won't give you oramorph your gp could.

So fab to hear the assessment went well! YAY! :panda::panda::panda:

Why can't you have oramorph at home?

Dusty. xxx

Have been told by the nursing staff and the consultant that they wont let you go home with oramorph.
I dont even think my consultant willl come up and see me. Apparantly he thinks its beneath him to come to an orthopedic ward.
Whatever!!

Just seen the head honcho. He has given me oramorph and piriton to take home. Just need to wait for my tablets then I am out of here!

I am extremely glad you are going home Shazz. For one thing, I think the hospital was doing you more harm than good in some ways.

I hope you will have help at home?

Hope your feeling better soon mrs as my wife keeps telling me"there will be good days for all these bad ones" Let's hope she's right! Keep us posted thinking about you.

Thank you everyone.
Am soooo glad to be home again!
Very tired. Going to bed in a moment.
Have read my discharge letter and the info they gave me differs to what is on there. I have given the info to my sister who is going to see her friend at the hospital where she works. Want to know if what they told me is as different as it seems on paper.
Will let you know what the outcome is tomorrow.
