I am brand new to this forum...

I have a Half Marathon next weekend and am very nervous. I was an avid triathlete before being diagnosed with Crohns a year and a half ago. Now, my exercise is completely based upon how I feel on a given day.

My question is this; has anyone registered for a race and then felt so bad the morning of that they didn't participate? I'm really worried this will happen.

Thanks.

I am no runner and barely exercise even when feeling alright but I understand not being able to make plans because I never know how I will feel on a given day. I know you want to do this marathon but its more important you are attune to your body and if you wake up and can't then I think you shouldn't push yourself. Unfortunately I think this is just something those of us with IBD need to accept. Some days we are going to want to curl up in a ball and be left alone.

Hi, welcome to the forum. I'm going to tag AlliRuns here because I know she's a marathoner, and hopefully she can give you some good info. I exercise often myself but I don't run (arthritis in both hips prevents me from jogging even a short distance). Yes, with an illness like this you definitely do have to take it day by day. What's your main concern, is it pain or diarrhea? If it's d, you might consider taking an immodium the morning before your race. Good luck, I hope you're able to run the race without any trouble.

Thanks for the input Cat! For me, it's how I feel after D. The loss of volume o hydration totally wipes me out... I'm afraid that will happen before/during a race and I'd be done for. I'm an avid endurance athlete so dealing with all of this is new/frustrating!!
