I officially hate my school went to the nurse couldn't stand and had bad bm and they said they won't send me home anymore cause im missing. To much

Hello Kirsten. When I was diagnosed 2 years back I was 16 and in my final year at school. I hardly turned up for the last two months and only came back for my exams. I completely understand what you are going through. Luckily enough I didn't have to see the school nurse and the school where completely understanding at why I was missing so much school and they just left me too it.

I see in your Biography that you say that you don't know anyone else with crohns. I have exactly the same problem, I know none who has crohns. That's why I find coming to this forum so important. Its such a great place to let your emotions go with people who really understand what you are going through.

On the education side of things, have you got any exams coming up? Are you aware of what exam concessions (allowances) you get? I get 20% extra time and un-timed breaks.

You also said "bad bm"? Do you mean bm as in blood sugar levels or as in bm short for bum, diarrhea kind of bum!?

Hope you feel better soon,
Liam

I mean bowel movement and Its the in class work I do have state testing next week and my finals are in June but matter of the fact is I was in tears and could barley stand they should have sent me home I hate my school

Are you in the U.S.? Do you have a 504 plan in place for school? If you do not have one you can read more about it and find a sample form here:

http://www.ccfa.org/resources/templa...-504-plan.html

You will need to get a letter from your GI stating your diagnosis. My son has a 504 and it automatically excuses his absences, allows for an open bathroom pass, gives additional time for make up work, and allows for him to check out of school due to issues related to CD. They can't punish you for absences due to your illness.

Hi Kirsten. So sorry you have to deal with school faculty on top of everything. Try to talk to your counselor and principal and tell them you want a 504 plan. If you don't get anything from them, go to District, I am sure they can do something to make things better for you. Sending Hugs your way.

Kirsten, I'm hoping that you are able to get the 504 put into place. You have a clinically diagnosed medical condition, the school is violating your rights by denying you the ability to go home when you are suffering. Please have your mom look into this carefully and get you the permissions you need so you don't fall behind and are still able to go the bathroom as needed or even go home when you need to. They can't legally treat you that way.

Good maybe that will help you. When my daughter was DX she had to get a letter and the school was understanding. Good luck to you

My school would never take time to read that

It wouldn't apply anyway because it's guidelines for schools in the UK, not the US, but federal law requires public schools to comply with the "Americans with Disabilities Act" by making reasonable accommodations.

In high school I was disgnosed with spontaneous allergic reactions from unknown substances that officially excused me from being required to participate in gym class. I had to show up, but wasn't graded on participation or performance, only on attendance.

The legislation wouldnt, but what you can expect a school can do to help your condition should be the same throughout the world. At least it will give you some ideas on what they can do, and what you can expect from them to help. Even if its allowing you to go to the bathroom whenever you like without having to debate with the teacher why you need to go so often.
Reasonable accomodations could mean different things to different people. If you have soemthing written down it takes the guesswork out of it and helps set a standard that all teachers can adhere to (making it better for them and you)

It also gives the teachers some information from a formal body on what the condition means to you. Maybe the CCFA has something similar?

The above link I posted has a copy of a template to use for your 504 plan geared toward having IBD. When you apply for a 504 plan the school has to set up a meeting and at that time you can go over all of the accommodations you require. I first met with the 504 director and laid out the accommodations then a called meeting with all my son's teachers was set up and they were made aware of what they needed to do to accommodate him. Any time there was an issue I would email the 504 director and she would make sure the plan was met.

It was hard for some teachers to come to terms with the fact that C had an illness that would affect parts of his school day. I would always allow him to address this first as I felt this was something he would be dealing with through out life. If it did not get resolved I would then step in and call the 504 director in the beginning but as time went on C would report to her and advocate for himself.

I do hope you are feeling better soon. Your GI's office should often deal with these issues and can be a great resource for information to send the school and can also speak on your behalf by phone or mail to the legitimacy of what you are requesting. Hope all goes well for you.

What do you mean you don't think it is going to work? The 504 plan? You can adjust it to meet your needs. 504 is backed by federal law so of you have a plan it's modifications have to be followed. If you consider another school you will still probably need the 504, the 504 follows you through college as well.

Good luck I hope you fund something that works for you so that you can feel better.

my school isnt very good when it comes to stuff like that but i been tossing around the idea of charter school not sure what i am going to do

Basically your school hasn't had to deal with a situation like yours before, so they are learning also. You can be the person who sets the stage for your school learning to adapt to people with medical conditions - continue to work with them and the 504 so that when the next person comes along who needs it, everyone will know what to do. Don't give up on them just yet!

everyone is telling me to wait and see how the beging of next school year goes to give myself the summer to see if i get better so we will see what happens
