Have a large, hard boil above the navel

I have developed a large, hard boil just above my navel that is a little bigger than a quarter and has become very painful. The doctor told me it could be an abscess but probably not since it is not leaking any fluid. This came up a few months back, receded for a while then came back just last week. My primary care physician and my gastroentrologist have done a good job of passing me back and forth between them for answers while I'm not getting any. To boot, my dermatologist isn't taking 'new' patients since I haven't had a need for the dermatologist in about ten years.

I know Crohn's can spark a number of skin issues and this would be the first that I've experienced since being diagnosed five years ago this month. Is it possible that this is an abscess, despite it not leaking fluid like the gastro said, just a large painful pimple or possibly worse?

To me it sounds like it could very well be an abcess....the only time it would leak is after it has been pierced or popped! Geesh.....abcesses do NOT start out leaking right away.....

Have you tried to bring it out by using a warm wet cloth? If it has been coming and going I would suspect something other than just a pimple....

It it were an abcess, you would probably have a fever and chills, that is your body fighting a infection. My abcess was the size of an egg, and did end up leaking.

It may be pyoderma.
