After my colonoscopy the Dr has found a blockage where I had the ressection in 2009 and ulcers. He could'nt get the camera where he wanted it to go apparently and he has taken a lot of biopsies which I have'nt had the results of yet. I am going into hospital and have to drink some gunk and having a scan, then the Doc is going to a colonoscopy but will use a balloon to try and clear the blockage and then more gunk and then another scan to see if it's cleared. If not it's another op.What I want to know is has anyone had this done and was it successful? Since the colonoscopy I have had the most awful pain in my back which the specialist nurse said he thinks is connected to the blockage so to only eat small amounts of chicken and fish.Thats not a problem at all but the pain is.I would appreciate any comments about this treatment. The diorrhea has stopped at the moment which has been my main problem up to 20 + times a day.I have to say also since I changed hospitals and saw this Dr on the 13th June I have had more done than in 3 years at the other hospital so there is light at the end of the tunnel now.

Yes I've had balloon dilations & they can be sometimes successful for strictures, had one done back in december & its still fine, unfortunately I've got another stricture elsewhere now though. The dilation process once the scope is where it should be takes seconds. Certainly a far better option than surgery obviously. Hope it works for you.

Hi Grant, can you tell me how long it took to have it done and were you sedated for it. I understand it is more sedation than when you have a colonoscopy.I'm glad it has worked for you but sorry to hear you have got another one. Will they use the same procedure?
Ive got fingers crossed it works for me too.I have never heard about this before cause the hospital I was being treated at were useless and only dished out steroids.

Clearwell, I was sedated to a point but aware of what was happening because of adhesions which means having to do a lot of rolling over etc. Now my specialist suspected a stricture so back in December i signed the form for a possible balloon dilation during the colonoscopy. Time wise virtually the same as a normal colonoscopy, about 20-25mins & the dilation literally takes seconds & you hardly notice it.
I dont know yet as I haven't had my follow up as yet, my specialist said it was just 4-5mm wide-maybe its too small to dilate. I've put myself on a strict low fiber diet & so far a month on-so good.
Fingers crossed for you, the skill of the gastro specialists is something else IMO. Really a marvel when you think about it.

Thanks so much thats put my mind at rest. This Consultant I have got now is amazing. He said he would sort things out and he has done so much already I trust him completely.I was so shocked when they said I had a blockage cause I had a colonoscopy in November and the other doc couldnt get the camera through then but he never said anything about a blockage .He said I had diverticulitis(probably not spelt right) and this consultant said my colon is completely clear.Thats in the past now and things are better and Im grateful for that. Thanks again and good luck with yours.
