Hi, needing a little bit of help as not sure if its all in my head or whether I should be contacting my doc/consultant!!!
I have been on budesonide steriods since February 2011, until recently I wouldnt really say I had any side effects but the past few weeks I have had a constant sore head, all day everyday, and extremely sore teeth. I am also have daily hot flushes at the same time each day where i feel quite sick! Is all this normal or am i abnormal?
Still all a bit new to this and still getting investigated and experimenting with which drugs will control everything.

Thanks in advance, needless to say I am very fed up :(

Hi there,
I don't know if side effects can pop up after a few months. I don't think it hurts to put in a call to the doc just to see what they suggest. Hope you feel better.

The headache can definately be a side effect of budesonide. Never heard of sore teeth, but I think bone pain can be a side effect. Which reminds me, are you taking a strong calcium supplement to prevent damage to your bones? Entocort/budesonide can take quite a while to work, explaining why the side effects didn't kick in straight away. Some people on here (Cat-a-tonic for example) have found that a low dose of amytriptilline can help. In high doses it's an antidepressant, but at a liw dose it's a pain reliever.

Hiya mallenfaye

unfortunately one of the side effects of entocort is headaches. I suffered terrible headaches on it, my GP put me on Amitriptyline for them, this works a treat.
and your teeth, are you grinding them in your sleep? I do this too, the amitriptyline helps with this also. I wake up with sore teeth too.
Have a word with your doc, you've been on entocort (budesonide) for over 3 months now, I would have thought any side effects would have reduced by now?

I've been on entocort for about two months now and i've had a few headaches but they didn't start till i started to wean from predisone. So I'm not sure if they are related. Are you having regular blood work done because I know it says on the warning label to keep all lab appointments while taking entocort. Your thyroid could be off or a bunch of stuff. I have my blood taken every two months and last time i was there my thyroid was starting to show differences and my hair was falling out more, night sweats, acne ,etc. Its getting better for me now that im weaning from the predisone. Side effects suck.

Thanks for all the input. I think I'll be phoning my GP tomorrow and my consultant. They have mentimed azothiaprine so hopefully get off this budesonide and start feeling better. I do get my blood done quite often and things are never quite right and I am due to go again. Human pin cushion or what. Please tell me things do improve?

Things improved a lot for me once I was on azathioprine. Symotoms reduced almost immediately, and after 4 months I had a normal CRP and ESR!

Well I have phoned my gp who told me to phone my consultant at the hospital so I have left a message with his secretary! I am currently being weened off the budesonide so this could be why I am getting the headaches! The sore teeth is the puzzler! I have never felt discomfort in my teeth like this before. I think I am getting more and more down in the dumps as this goes on and the thought of it lasting the rest of my life is very depressing :(

Thanks again for the help, its good to know there are people out there who can offer help and support.

Bit of a late reply, sorry!
I have been on Entocort twice over the past 6 months and strangly I have noticed that it is only when I start to taper that the side effects get worse (mainly the insomnia but also some nausea). This makes no sense to me but has happened twice so I can't deny it ;)
I hope you get some answers soon

Thats the same as me, its only as i reduce the dosage that I get problems. Usually the consultant just puts me back up to the full dosage but this is now concerning me as the long term isnt good on this kind of drug is it? I am wondering if the sore teeth is due to the drugs as it does mention bone density in the leaflet and afterall teeth are bone. It just seems to be one thing after another. Currently sat here reading a leaflet on Azathioprine from my gp as thats what i think i am going onto next.......the battle continues. Just when you start feeling better something else strikes!

Could it be a sinus issue? WHen I get a sinus infection, I get headaches and my upper teeth ache (sometimes even my bottom teeth). It's weird because those are really my only symptoms other than an earache at times as well.

Also, could it be dental issues? I know that sounds too easy. But sometimes when we are on so many drugs, we forget about the simple things and assume it must be related to the meds.
