Hey everyone! i'm new and i'm hoping to finally find people who understand what i go through! haha...i was diagnosed this past February with Crohn's. i had had awful pains in my stomach for 2 months before i finally found a doctor who believe me when i said something was wrong. And by that time things were so bad i had missed a week and a half of classes and work and could barely move because the pain was constant and so awful. So i had a CT scan which showed massive abscess/infection in my small intestine. So i was admitted to the hospital on Valentine's Day (bummer, but i had no one to spend it with anyway, haha). The following day i had surgery, which was part exploratory. i had about a foot of my small intestine removed, along with my appendix.
i recovered pretty well and was doing great until a few weeks ago. i started to get diarrhea more often than what was normal. At first i figured i would give it a few days and thought it would pass but instead it got more and more fequent and all of my BMs were the same liquid-y consistancy. However, i started to notice that the consistancy wasn't like the kind of consistancy i was used to with diarrhea. There's like these fluffy-looking chunks while the rest of like pure liquid.
So i had already had a GI appointment scheduled for this past Wednesday so i explained this to my doctor. i had also noticed the day before that, that when i had a BM all of my medication came out in full. Well, im not a huge fan of my GI, i feel like he doesn't really care enough or take the time to listen and understand. So he told me he could schedule me for a colonoscopy but the soonest he could get me in was the very end of the month. i didn't think i could wait another week to have something done! He didn't give me anything to do in the meantime to help with my issues.
Well luckily i was put on a cancellation list and im going in this Wed, for it, and it'll be my first one. So i thought i could rest a wee bit easier knowing i wouldnt have to wait so long.
Until late last night i had a BM and i got really really awful cramps and pain. They left me with chills and when i got up i looked into the toilet (which ive been doing to make sure im not having any bleeding) and i was terrified because it looked like there was thread or string throughout all of the fluffy parts. i really freaked out because it was late and i didnt want to call my parents at home and i had never seen anything like this before. Its like it looked like pieces of thread or little spider legs and i lost it.
This morning when i woke up early for a BM i notice just a few of those thread-like things and then a few hours later when i went again i really didnt see any. Then again, earlier this evening i saw a bunch more.
Has anyone ever experienced anything like this in their BMs? i have no idea what it could be, i haven't been eating anything that i could ncessarily tie it to. At first one of my thoughts was that it really could be string...it looks almost like stitches and i didnt know how exactly my small instestine was reconnected after surgery but i thought, oh gosh would it have been stitched and this could be the stitches coming out because of all of the diahrrea i've been having? i dont know how irrational of a thought that is, if it would even be possible, but ive just been a nervous wreck because i haven't dealt with anything like this before.

i know that was a long explanation, so if anyone read through the whole thing and has any thoughts, i would reeeeally appreciate them!

Internal stitcheswould be disolving ones...it's very possible that what you're seeing is actually mucus, IBDers tend to have excessive mucus which is often quite noticable in and on our stools....you can ask your doc to do a stool test too in order to confirm what it is.

:)

hey jordan, welcome to the toilet forum of the web:D

not good that you have to be here, but you will find a ton of useful information and help on this site you may not find so quickly elsewhere.

i've never seen the things you mentioned before (but i have seen a lot of weird stuff in the bowl).

what kind of food had you been eating prior to this?

when flaring, you'll find a lot of things pass straight thru you with out any digestion.

and if your GI doesnt seem to care, either find a new one, or dont leave his office till your pleased with his course of action (i get pushy that way, some people using the crying route, other freak out, use what ever method you need to get them to listen). as you already probably know, this is a pretty serious disease and failed or half hearted efforts by doctors can leave us in a world of pain.

take pictures of it to your doc if need be:D then they cant dismiss it:)

again, welcome, enjoy your stay and feel free to ask any questions.

Jed

p.s.
1 what meds are you on?
2 yes i read the whole thing:D
3 where abouts is your current pain?

It's the gum you swallowed when you were in kindergarten. The other kids were right!

Okay, joking...

Could be mucous, but definitely get it checked out.

ah, the wonders of the human body
yes, deifinitely mention it to your doctor, and don't feel bad about showing
them photos of things, i do it ALL the time! :)

did you eat a banana?!?

i went through a similar thing to what youre talking about. i noticed these little "threads" in my poo that were yeah, like strings or tiny worms or something and i had NOO idea what to make of it.
then i made banana bread from scratch one day and after it baked i could see similar little black threads in the bread.
to make sure, i ate a banana and then checked my poo and sure enough the threads were there!!

totally weird, but somehow the fibers of the banana seem to morph into those weird threads in digestion.

DOH! Kello beat me to the bannana reply. Last time I ate a bannana it was in my poop for the next 2 days. Little bannana strings. Cool.
Welcome to the forum Jordan!
(I had way more to say, but Jed stole it all...)
