I am new to all this, been dealing with Crohns since the end of November, can't seem to reach remission. I have been doing fairly well, diarrhea and cramping had slowed to only a few times a day, only bleeding was from anal fissures. But this morning I had horrid cramping and filled the toilet with blood (sorry!). How do I know when to worry? I bled like this in the beginning before starting meds (Entocort and Asocol), but it's been weeks. Why the sudden bleeding? Is it normal to backslide like this?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!
Shelli

Welcome to the joy of Crohn's... Each of us has our own set of symptoms. Bleeding like this is unfortunately not uncommon. If it is once and then goes away, you can probably let it slide. If it recurrs, you may want to call your GI. It sounds like you probably have some ulceration. As alarming as it can be, you can actually get used to it. I am assuming that you are being seen regularly while you get used to your case - make a note of this and make sure you discuss it in any case. Don't want to get you down, but it is possible to go for years, even decades without remission. Some however do find the balance in meds and diet that they need to get into remission quickly. Hopefully yours is quick. Take care...

I found I still had the odd toilet full of blood on steroids but they never completely worked for me....if it was just a once off I probably wouldn't worry too much but if it happens again maybe talk to your doctpr even just for peice of mind :)
