High Calcium

Yes. I have had this over the past year. Had to get my para thyroid checked. Stopped taking my multi vit & I don't eat much dairy. Do you think it could be med related? I'm on methotrexate & pentasa
Woops!

I am really not sure. No one can figure it out and I just had the worst sarcoidosis scare possibly. Supposedly high calcium that is not pth related is likely sarcoidosis. I had a full body gallium scan and it showed no sarcoid. I don't think it's from the medications. Maybe it's from the crohns itself. My calcium is high, pth is low, and 1,25 d is elevated. I am on humira and lialda.

I don't recall all the details, but there are other issues that can cause high calcium levels. Your body may be using up some of the calcium from your bones right now, something that long term use of prednisone can cause. It can lead to kidney stones. Unfortunately, this is from way too much experience. If there is free calcium in your blood, make sure your diet is low in oxalates (red meat and chocolate, two of my favourites, unfortunately are biggies) to reduce the risk. Take care.
