Hot flashes ...

I've had constant hot flashes for a while now.

They began around the same time my Crohn's flared up and the abdominal pain commenced which culminated with an emergency surgery.

Are hot flashes a sign that the Crohn's is active? Does it indicate my body is fighting infection?

I'm closely tracking my hot flashes now to see whether it's medication, food ... or none of the above that's triggering them

Does anybody have any advice on this topic for me on how they deal with it?

Thanks, take care.

If you have no other issues, slight fevers are "normal". Fever is part of the immune response to fight bacteria, the raise in body temperature makes bacteria vulnerable, that's what is happening in crohn's disease. Plenty of people who have crohn's disease have fevers and night sweats. Not much you can do about them, within the context of inflammation, it's normal.

You should someone keeping an eye on the inflammation, but the fevers themselves is something that just happens and you have no control over it. A fever is not inhernetly a bad thing, it's a good thing most of the time, it's a sign of disesase though.

MrBleu - I've struggled with excessive heat and hot flashes for years with my crohn's. Guests know to dress warmly when coming to my house because I keep it cold (cold to non IBDs anyway). As for if it's a sign of active inflammation... at least in my case I think it's just more part of the disease's side effects! I sort have adapted - dress in layers, wear extra deodorant, use lots of fans, and try to drink lots of water. Good luck - for me, it's an everyday symptom

Thanks for this input and also the previous poster re. the flashes being a natural sign.

I had assumed it was possibly a response to infection/fever ... that also made me wonder if paracetamol would help to reduce the fever + flashes ...

It's been very difficult to do shifts at work with the hot flashes/periods coming and going like this.
